this is great, ive been wanting to get into python but its been hard to to do without a structured course.

NLP's programming assignments are in python.  So are those of the self driving car class, but the first set of homework has already passed, and the second is due by midnight tonight.

I'm definitely excited about the new offerings.  I'm kinda bummed the next round starts 3 weeks before my regular semester ends.  I may still do the 101 course though.  I can probably handle that with all of my other regular classes since I already know a bit of programming.

I've already enrolled in the NLP course. Taken the first quiz, though I only got 3/5 for it :( I'm not sure I'm using the Porter Stemming algorithm script properly :/

Article about Udacity:

The Stanford Education Experiment Could Change Higher Learning Forever

This is the best part:

Quote
For the next six months or more, [Udacity's] curriculum will focus on computer science. Eventually it will expand into other quantitative disciplines including engineering, physics, and chemistry. The idea is to create a menu of high-quality courses that can be rerun and improved with minimal involvement from the original instructor.

So, Coursera has had a major update and now includes 30+ courses that are going to be offered over the next few months!  All kinds of courses, too, not just computer science.

This is the skeptic's dream!  Free education!  Here are some random examples:

-Statistics
-Calculus
-Machine Learning
-Vaccines
-Game theory
-Finance
-Pharmacology
-Compilers
-Sociology

Do it!

It's also added some interesting sounding nontechnical classes, if that's your thing.

For example, humanities has a course on Greek and Roman Mythology, one on World Music, one on Contemporary Poetry.

So if the really computer oriented lineup drove you away before, I'd say give it another look.

So, I signed up for the CS 101 Coursera course that begins on Monday, just to see what it's like.  I still have 2 weeks of regular real life courses left, after which I may also enroll late in the CS 101 and CS 212 courses through Udacity, which have been running since this past April 16th.  (It looks like since Udacity has already run the CS 101 course once, you can sign up anytime and complete the assignments at your own pace.  CS 212 is running for the first time right now though, so I'm not sure if I can start that one late).

Anyone else taking anything right now?

Just finished week 1 in the logics course, its well structured, fast paced, i can highly recommend this since it picks up speed now in week 2, its not as basic as i thought it was from the looks of it. Very very cool!

Computer Vision's first week was just an intro lecture.  Still time to sign up without starting behind.

I'll hopefully catch that next time it's offered.
