We can also make our own maps using the in-game editor WorldEdit. If people want I could set up a world where the players have access to WorldEdit, rather than just me, if you want to have a play. (I do need to work out how to fly around though, especially for a floating world) This will take some time and effort and I'll be pretty busy for a week however it is an option after that.
I could also cut and paste the existing floating island we have on the map to somewhere else. (and clone it)
Loading existing worlds you guys or others make is also easy.

Ok, I think I might just make a floating island world instead of trying to build one by hand.

Also, I lost all my fish, thanks to some creepers. But now I have some regular stone that I can donate to a community chest of some sort...

It would be so much mor fun to build one. Much more work, yes, but we just arrived to a new world, we shouldn't just move on to a new one...
There's, another example. See, here I'm now sitting by myself, uh, er, talking to myself. That's, that's chaos.

I envision the island to be quite big. Since we have twice the height, we should place the island's floor level at the original height (maybe lower). It should have a medium size mountain slightly to the side. It should have a river with several waterfalls until a final waterfall drops to the ground. We should be able to build a Castle and city on the side where there is no Mountain.

Maybe the best way to do this, is to grab a huge chunk of land and stick it in the sky, then Carve out the features. This way the mountain and the soil will be more natural. The part that has to be carved out the most would be the underside, so that it looks jagged and natural. If you can do that with world edit, I think I'll try to do it next week.

I can copy and paste any large chunk of an existing world, including the underground bit , up into the air. I can then carve away the base to make it look correct. I'll experiment with small bits tonight maybe. World Edit is what made the original crash crater on Gliese 581-g. Although I made it offline on my own server and then moved the world over. I can make a floating island offline and then copy the schematic onto the world we want.
Oh just a thought, we probably want it over an ocean becuase it's shadow will be spawn heaven...unless that's what people want.  >:D
I'll also look at how to adjust the player protection modes to allow players to wield gods axe if they want.

It would be fun to have a place of challenge. The hordes will probably not wonder too far from there. It can be a place for challenge and fun. I haven't seen the worlds, so I don't know where to place it, but it should be slightly over a lake, where we can make a waterfall towards it.  The Teleporter should be in a place where you can see the island from afar.

And I was already working on a map... Oh wells. I can make one for later. I will try and put a decent amount of time into it to stall so it won't come out now since we just got a new world...

Are you familiar with Vech's CTM map "The Black Dessert"?  It's a huge dessert with an obsidian sky.  There are only a few pockets of open space that let light through.  That said I"m fine with the island(s) being over land as long as it is out of the way.  If we want it over water there is a nice big ocean to the north of the spawn castle on Gleise581d.

If you are (or anyone else) working on a map that's fine.  It's only a few minutes work to import a new map onto the server and set things up. Even if people just work on a chunk of a map and want it put into an existing world that would be fine.
I'm fine with people doing whatever they want. This ranges from supplying a safe whitelisted server ready to go to helping with construction via chests of materials, helping setting up online editting tools to helping with importing anything from building schematics, through to chunks, floating islands or entire worlds.
This weekend I'll test out the latest WorldEdit so we can at least import schematics of buildings or floating islands.

I want to plaaaaaaaaaaaaay.   :'(

I'm glad to see so much activity lately.  Three more weeks of school, I graduate, and then IT. IS. MINECRAFT TIME!!!!

(I can't start casually playing MC in my spare time until after school is over.  For me, it's all or nothing because as soon as I start a new project I get sucked in until I finish it.  I've gone in cycles of a few days on / a few weeks off for about the past year and a half.)
