MikeHz:
Established religions have a long and hallowed history of opposing advances in medicine.

--- Quote from: Neon Genesis on Mar 04, 2012, 10:01:04 PM ---There's also the possibility that religions will use immorality for their own abuses.  Instead of trying to prove the existence of God through philosophy or science, become immortal through artificial means and pretend to be a god yourself and start your own religious cult.  I'm thinking of that episode of Star Trek TOS with the psychic people that tried to become gods and how they abused their power.  The hypothesis also assumes that once the rich powerful people invent these technologies to give them immorality, they'll want to share that technology with us lower middle class and poor people instead of keeping it all for themselves so they can become immortal gods and enslave the rest of the human race that they consider to be inferior.

Well now, that's interesting.  My immediate thought was that the established religions would fight tooth and nail against technological advances toward immortality—"man playing God" and all that—but I guess I could also imagine the creation of an exalted class.

Ugh.

Scary thought. This is a simulation run by a fundamentalist whatever. Heaven and hell are then real.

I'm pretty certain that I'm in the hell simulation...  >:D
