I couldn't finish the book.
Here were some of my problems
1)  I don't like first person perspective.  It is hard to pull off and it really doesn't work well in a sci-fi dystopia because we are relying on the narrator so much to fill in the setup.  It works better when the reader is more familiar with the setting.

2)  i thought the main character was very boring and bland, and since the story is told from her point of view, the story is boring and bland.  I shouldn't be reading a story like this and think it is boring.

3)  It was very predictable.  This one is more forgivable because this book is aimed at younger readers who might not have read many dystopian future novels.

4) I am too old for this.  If  I was 12 or 13 i would probably be in love with katniss

5)  Things are introduced and resolved so quickly, it was very annoying and removed a lot of tension.

I liked the "games" parts of the books.  The third book I just can't finish.  I have tickets to see the movie Sunday the 25th with some friends at a movie theater where you can drink liquor during the movie.  Woot!

The books were decent for something obviously targeted for teens. I doubt the movie will be very good. The fact that the screenplay was originally written by the author probably doesn't mean too much. For one thing movies rely on a lot of other things besides a good screenplay. A very good screenplay can still ultimately end up a very poor movie. And secondly screenplays can go through a lot of changes before it reaches filming stage (and even during filming.) So much so that its nowhere near the same movie.

Take it from me and my obviously ultimate authority as a former film major. :P Not to mention that movies are never as good as the books, and these days, people often do absolutely horribly at making movies (it's often more about the money than an actually good movie.)

'hey, wow, a bieber movie and a twilight movie made people rich -- I wonder if I can make a dumb teen movie and get rich by just recycling my old material!'

The author is an established screenwriter, so that's encouraging. So far, 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
If you still hold the same views now as you did in high school, you probably should reexamine those views.

Really? The person directing (or producing?) this did a twilight and bieber movie? I haven't even looked at who is directing this, so I had no idea. I must say though, generally adapting books into movies is a difficult thing to do and a lot of the more decent directors aren't interested, so I tend to not have high expectations with these things regardless.

yea naa, I just get the feeling it was green lit because of the recent financial success of tween movies.

maybe it will be a good movie, I dunno... I'm expecting it to suck for anyone over 18, and I hope I'm wrong. -- a good Batman movie is possible, so anything is possible!

Yeah, I think Batman surprised everyone with that one. If a comic book hero can be pulled of as a great story, then pretty much anything can. It all depends on much more than something as simple as the plot being based on cliche comic character. Hunger Games could potentially be really good. But I don't have my hopes up, because even an epic A+ script or decent plot can't save poor directing, cinematography, sound, acting, and editing. Heck you don't even need an awesome plot to have a 5 star movie. Just go watch There Will Be Blood, and that movie's epicness is not really based on it's overall plot (it has nowhere near your typical style of plot anyways.) It's great sound, cinematography and simply astounding acting and characters is what makes it good.
