willradik:
Well. That seems a bit demeaning of people who like collecting data scientifically. I mean, there is also a difference between scientific observation and regular observation and maybe some scientists out there just enjoy collecting data. If they're doing it right, I wouldn't lump them in with pseudoscientists who make false correlations. And calling them "stamp collectors" just wouldn't be very polite.  ;)

willradik:
I meant false conclusions based on correlations, but I guess false correlations could be found by pseudoscientists, too. You get the idea.

I wasn't criticising scientists who collect data with a view to them (or others) making and testing hypotheses based on that data. I was criticising pseudoscientists who throw piles of data and correlations at us claiming that it shows "something" that scientific dogma refuses to accept, but not knowing (and frequently not caring) what the underlying mechanism might be.

Shadow Of A Doubt:
Enjoyed the podcast! I was caught out by Steve's sneaky use of the word "vast" in SoF.

Ron Obvious:
Beat me to it re: Lincoln-sher, Trinoc.  I'm surprised living so close to New Hamp-Shyre, the Rogues missed this.

I usually don't get to listen to the podcast this early in the week, and I enjoyed this one especially for two new concepts I've added to my vocabulary: The "Gish-Gallup", and "The Dirty Lie of Homeopathy being what Homeopathy actually is"  That is so very true as I've personally experienced.  Brilliant!
