Russian space program documentaries
« on: Mar 29, 2012, 04:09:57 PM »
I've seen countless movies and documentaries about the US space program's history, but have never seen much regarding the Russian counterpart. Does anyone know of any good documentaries about the Russian space program?
If you still hold the same views now as you did in high school, you probably should reexamine those views.

Packing for Mars (it is a book) has some great stories in it on the Russian SP.

If you have not read it already.

Read it; liked it. But, I'm looking for something with visuals.

There is a bit of USSR stuff in the BBC series "the planets".

Including interviews with USSR's KLunar and Venus scientists, plus a decent amount of archive footage.

Red Star in Orbit based on the book of the same name by James Oberg, pretty much the non-spy agency authority on the Soviet space program:

Red Star in Orbit 1. The invisible spaceman 1of4.avi

Bryan Burrough's book "Dragonfly" is about the Shuttle-Mir program.  It has some interesting insights into the Russian space program during the 90s, but it's not really about the space race.  By the time the Americans got to Mir, most of the innovation and intrigue of the Russian space program was finished.

Thanks. Just what I was looking for. I actually read this book some time ago.
