This is the first time I put in a guess for who's that noisey: The start of the 80's science show Connections by James Burke. There is a Arc lamp during the show intro.

Love the podcast, and listen to it every week. There's a couple points on today's show though that could use a bit of clarification.

Aurora hypothesis of the atmospheric phenomenon over Mars is probably not correct, because according to NASA

Our sister planets, Mars and Venus, are the oddballs: space probes have found no evidence of structured magnetic field lines on either planet, only traces.

Also, Pigasus award for Scientist that did the silliest thing goes to Darryl Bem...for what? What thing or idea did he present? Lots of criticism of the man, but what is this stuff that he did?

I'm so glad that a Dexter's Lab quote found its way onto today's show!

WTN: An arc generated by a Tesla coil?

Otherwise, I think The Lexx's guess of the Connections intro is pretty good, though the ones on YouTube that I've checked aren't exactly like the clip.

James Burke : Connections, Episode 1, "The Trigger Effect", 1 of 5 (CC)

Edit: Definitely thinking it might be a Tesla coil:

The idea he presents is: there is a protocol that can demonstrate people's ability to sense the future.

Feeling The Future: Is Precognition Possible?

Because here is the dirty secret of anomalous phenomena like telepathy and clairvoyance: They’ve been demonstrated dozens of times, often by reputable scientists. (Bem is an extremely well-respected psychologist, best known for his work on self-perception.)

Three thousand quirks and counting...

Nice episode!

Every time I see Randi on the show notes, I wonder whether there's anything more he can tell us, but I found it a great interview, and I'm looking forward to the book (I think it's been mentioned on the show for at least three or four years).

We did not get into the Bem thing because we already thoroughly discussed it in the show a couple of times.
