The Shins - Port Of Morrow

Port of Morrow - The Shins

it expresses some cool themes, kinda atheist, kinda skeptical. I mean he's not singing about big foot being bs, or homeopathy etc. But there's a distinct sense of place which addresses the root of many pseudo-sciences--the idea that people are somehow special. This song is all about how people are just the same brutal animals we have always been.

Under my hat I know
The lines are all imagined
A fact of life I must impress on my little girls
I know my place among the creatures in the pageant

Bad Religion's a good one, but Greg Graffin doesn't make music as a skeptic, if that makes sense. It seems more like he writes his tunes, and happens to be a skeptic—ie, skepticism isn't the focus. (Just to clarify my position above.)

Greg Graffin definitely fits with the OP, though.

Boy, I don't know....I think GG absolutely writes music AS a skeptic.

Quote from: Bad Religion "Materialist"

I'm materialist
A full-blown realist
(physical theorist)
And I guess I'm full of doubt
So I'm prone to hear you out and refuse
I'm materialist
There ain't no fear in this
It's for all to see, so don't talk of hidden mysteries with me

One of many songs of the same vein.....

AQ: Nearly derped out with Randi myself.  Luckily it was at a Capitol Area Skeptics fundraiser breakfast, and he wandered from table to table....so we got to chit chat, get books signed, and he even did some slight of hand with the salt and pepper shakers....  Best. Breakfast. Ever.
Well.  There it is.

I guess what I'm saying is that when you think of Greg, you think (at least I do) punk guy writing music that sometimes happens to be skeptical. You don't think there's a "skeptic" writing music.

It's a pretty minor point (if there's one at all), anyway. Maybe others see it differently.

Maynard Keenan of TOOL is not an atheist. At least not publicly.

I picked up the new Tenacious D album the other day. “Rize of the Fenix”  There is an anti religion song on there called “Throwdown”  If you’re a D fan pick up the record.  You’ll dig it.  If your not a D fan… well at least check out “Throwdown.”  Pretty cool song.  Jack Black is an atheist by the way.

Tenacious D - Throw Down

"The universe is a big place, perhaps the biggest."

Henry Rollins sometimes. And I'm gonna go with David Byrne too.

  If you're not a D fan…

Wait....

Who isn't a D fan?

What's the matter with them?
Well.  There it is.
