Dirk Gently I got 5 minutes in, and part of me died. I had to shut it off and write an extremely violent and colorful letter to BBC4. You don't fuck with the greatest books ever written like that. You don't do that. Bastards. Complete and utter bastards.

Being Human (US) - I like the BBC version even though I find George to be annoying when he turns. Caught the American version and I wanted to pull out my eyes and shove a screwdriver into my ears.

The BBC version was good at first and then just got horrible.  I got sick of George's whiny ass.  I didn't even try on the American version.

Oh, and for a new disappointing TV show from me; how about Sliders?  It had so much potential that it was never able to fully take advantage of for various reasons.  I honestly think it's incredibly prime pickings for a reboot or sequel so long as the showrunner and studio behind it have some guts to really go for it.
Oh gumbleboots, yes. I was so hoping it would become my new favorite show to replace the late, lamented Quantum Leap. And it just fizzled; a few good ideas in Season 1, all of them pitched overboard in favor of movie ripoffs, cheesy ratings stunts, and cast-shuffling. *cry*

The American version of The Office. I thought the first couple (I guess 3) seasons were pretty funny but I've completely lost interest since then. The British version was much, much more downbeat and, frankly, realistic, which made me like it a lot more. Sometimes the guy doesn't get the girl in the end, people. And sometimes the bad boss is not redeemable. It basically turned into Cheers in an office, which is okay, I guess, but the British version was some of the best television ever made IMO.

I haven't watched The Simpsons or South Park in over a decade.

Everything that's on The History Channel, especially that ancient aliens crap, which is as always thinly disguised racism. "The Nazca Lines! Them South Americans were too stupid to draw them all by themselves! ALIENS! [big hair]".

Keep in mind that there were more episodes of the US version by the end of the first season than the entire run of the British version.  Its so much easier to beat something to death in 22 episodes than in 6 episodes.

The British system always seems to leave me wanting more.  Which is good and bad I suppose.  The US system usually leaves me wishing shows had ended a season or two earlier.

The camera crew following around David Brent's ego made perfect sense. The camera crew in the US version makes zero sense, and it's poorly done to boot. And now they've extended this mockumentary crap over to Parks. It makes no sense, think about it.

I actually enjoyed the first season of the American version of Being Human and I felt like they did a pretty good job of following the original while having enough original storylines to keep it fresh.  I also felt like Sally's ghost powers made more sense to me than her British counterpart where they just seemed to make it up as they go along with no consistency at all.  The only thing that kind of annoyed me about the American version was they added in the token lesbian sister who you never see do anything lesbianish but she keeps saying she's a lesbian so that's good enough for American TV.  I haven't seen the second season of the American version yet to judge it.

It doesn't make any sense but to me it works pretty well in P&R at least. I like the idea of being able to transmit the inner thoughts of a character to the audience - it's one place where the written word still has an advantage over film and television - and using this gimmick to provide that information is kind of fun. I mean, I wouldn't want to see it in every show out there, just as I don't want every TV show to be a half an hour of cops and half an hour of lawyers, but meh, it's okay by me.

Hated it.
If you still hold the same views now as you did in high school, you probably should reexamine those views.

Lately I've been experiencing the odd phenomenon of shows not grabbing my attention, but with a concurrent recognition that they're quality. Kind of like how I felt about the movie Hugo. To wit, Mad Men and Community most recently.
