So, the CDF has released a doctrinal assessment of an organization of Catholic women that can be boiled down to "if you don't like being subservient to classical dogma and gender roles in the Vatican system, you can't be Catholic, especially if you're going to make us men look bad by actually helping people unlike the Catholic church."

Which was bad enough, but then this asshole decided to chime in, and the quotes are just disgusting.

Quote
We’ve known about this goofiness among the women religious for how long? Where I grew up, I remember the weird, quasi-pagan rituals the local sisters would do in the mid 80’s. My Mom would come home and report these things to my young ears and I just wondered where in God’s name the bishops were…

Quote
Folks need to understand that some of the women religious leaders are deeply wounded people. Though Catholics tend to personally remember sisters with great affection, we hear more common talk about these women being mean, unbalanced, vindictive.

Quote
One can understand some of the bitterness that these women feel towards the Church and towards more traditional forms of religious life. They associate obedience with oppression, and that can be very difficult. I’m not saying they’re right in their associations, but it is understandable that many should feel bitter and angry over abuses that occurred in the past.

Quote
I'll recommend that you refrain from judging too harshly lest you be judged. I don't deny the harm done. In fact I specifically note it in my post. [...] But Christ still wants them. I still want them. You should still want them in the fold. So let's pray for them... yes?

So classy.

I am impressed you can be bothered to read all of that.

I am just ignoring the Catholic church until it dies a terrible, painful and slow death.

Just to chime in from an Orthodox POV... even though the priest and Bishop roll has a leadership roll within the church they are considered servants and slaves to the parishioners. The handing over the keys to Peter was metaphorical in the fact that the master handed the keys to his household to his head slave when he was away.

In the Orthodox Church the parishioners decide if a Priest is worthy to be ordained. They declare "Axios, Axios, Axios"  or "worthy", "worthy", "worthy". The vestments that they wear are to be a sign of submission.

The Priests, Bishops, and Deacons are nothing more than custodians of the Church.
common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

My experience with Catholicism (raised in it til about 23) was that the local congregation had absolutely no say in who their priest was or in who was ordained, and that the local church could not function without a priest so we were beholden to the bishop to send us one.

So why they didn't get the memo?

You know, if Jesus Christ wasn't a mythical superhero, I'd bet dollars to donuts this is exactly the sort of thing that would SUPER piss him off, like money changing in temples, or fig trees that don't give him figs on demand.

"Her group was also cited in the Vatican document for focusing its work too much on poverty and economic injustice, while keeping “silent” on abortion and same-sex marriage." (!!!!!)

Cause as we all know, Jesus' central message was "stop focusing on the poor and the suffering, and go forth and persecute gays and women!

EDIT:
Whoops, I forgot to add the article that I was quoting:
