I have Return To Oz on DVD and I love it a lot but even with that movie, they still had to pay homage to the 1939 movie by including the dream elements again and making Dorothy's slippers red instead of silver though at least Return To Oz played with the dream elements in more creative ways than the MGM movie did.

I'm going to 2nd Max Headroom.  Also Sledgehammer.  Though their recent love affair with making movies out of older TV shows has proven to be a horrible experience.

Here, I thought I was the only person that even remembered Sledge Hammer, let alone liked it.  Its hard for me to see how Max Headroom would work now.  Back in the 80s, computers were mysterious things that only weirdos new anything about so you could pretty much do anything in fiction and nobody would be able to call BS.  The original Tron kinda worked because of that but the new version, meh.

How about, the Running Man, the original was good and cheezy but I think it could be better and it wasn't as serious as something like Rollerball so a new version wouldn't ruin a good thing.

I like to see a new "Thin Man".

Along the same lines, I always thought the Charlie Chan character could use a remake. Remove the racist stereotypes, and just make a really good sleuth/adventure film with an asian lead....maybe Sammo Hung.

Glad to see someone else remembers Automan - I was only like 5 when my brother and I watched it but I loved it. I think it would work well now with a modern update. And Xena in all its goofy glory.

I remember Automan partly because of the running joke of the true 90 degree turns the car, and it's driver, could make with no problems, but caused problems for human passengers.  Didn't they use that as an interrogation technique one episode?

And Sledgehammer... the pillow for his gun named... "Gun".  "Trust me, I know what I'm doing."

Speaking of Xena, there are a pair of linked games, put out by Steve Jackson Games, I think, called Diana, Warrior Princess and Elvis, the Legendary Concerts.  Basically, they are what happens when 30th century entertainment producers treat the 20th century with the same level of accuracy as Xena/Hercules.  Lots of amusing fun.  Had characters such as singer John Lenin and robber baron Wild Bill Gates.

misfits of science I loved the pilot and was so looking forward to this show, then they dropped it. I have yet to go back and try and watch it now so it may have totally sucked. 9 year old me thought it was bad ass for 1985.

Did anyone say Police Squad? (The very short lived TV show that became a movie series)

Ooh, not a bad idea... Theyd kind of ruined it by the time they got to the 3rd movie. Reboot to get back to the original spirit could be pretty good.

Dont know how it would go without Leslie Neilsen, though.

Only if they go back to the lead being overly serious like the original, rather than the pratfaller of the movies.

Exactly. A show like that would probably succeed today, though maybe not on a major network. The show was apparently cancelled because audiences reported they had to shift their viewing habits when watching it. They had to, get this, watch it. There were so many visual puns and jokes, you couldn't fold laundry and follow the story. You had to put everything aside and pay attention.
