I know a big deal is made of B5s being scripted beginning to end before the first episode but the last season always felt like it didn't belong and Bruce Boxlightner seemed like an unexpected replacement for the original guy.

The end had to be rushed because they thought there would be no Season 5.  Season 5 was supposed to be the free Earth season, that had to be pushed up and shortened.

JMS wrote the series with casting issues in mind.  I think everyone was probably replaceable on the show with the exception of G'kar and Londo.

Yeah seasons 4 and 5 were mangled cause the show was cancelled in season 4 so JMS tried to finish the show in 4.

Season 3 is widely regarded as the best season, although I think 1-3 were great. This is why I'd love to see it rebooted with a guarantee all 5 seasons will air with no outside pressure to worry about.

The cast would not be the same.  It would not be worth it.  Never mind Londo and G'kar, I honestly would not want to see another actor playing Bester and Morden.

It's just... the show was so wonderful and awesome. I want nothing more then for everyone to embrace B5 and to be able to watch it all the time like the inferior Trek.

Sliders (full of wasted potential, and honestly the characters were far less important to me than the premise and story concepts.  I wouldn't even care if it was just a sequel

LMAO

I clicked on this thread to say that :)

I find that hilarious, because I was similarly THRILLED when by chance in a hotel one day flicking through pay-TV channels I stumbled across this show I, too, had forgotten the name of :)

Recast Sliders:

Quinn: Ron Livingston  (older type) or Bret Harrison (young type)
Remy: Cedric (funny type) or Anthony Anderson (bitter/serious/dramatic)
Professor Arturo: Michelle Rodriguez or Navi Rawat OR  Paul Giamatti
Wade Wells: Karen Leblanc or Christina Cox OR Malik Yoba (gay love interest)

Not gonna happen.

If Sliders were to be an actual reboot, I'd want an all-new set of characters.  There's no reason not to and it just opens the flexibility of the show to go where-ever it wants without having to stay faithful to the source.  Personally though, I'd like to see a sequel which picks up years after the show and follows the original professor who was left behind on another Earth in season 2.

He'd have been working on redoing Quinn's experiments for a while with no luck until the Quinn, Wade, and Remy from that Earth finally return home.  The professor then embarks on a quest to find his friends (horrible fates unknown to him) and stop the impostor from living his life.  He'd probably take an assistant (perhaps a less annoying Conrad Bennish) and a friend or something, but the Sliders from that world would understandably want to stay behind.  The whole first season would revolve around searching for his friends, but as we know that they are mostly all dead the most he'll actually find are clues and primarily the season will explore "What if" scenarios like the first season or two of the original Sliders did.

As they progress, Arturo will learn of the Kromaggs (though he will never meet them) and of how they met their end by some sort of virus.  He'll find evidence of Wade's death, and will eventually make his way to the planet they were on in the series' finale where they tell him of Remy's last ditch plan and likely death and that the other sliders have already found a way to continue onto other worlds before he got there.  The season will end with him unexpectedly finding Remy alive.

Season two will be about getting home again to rebuild what's left.

I think I only watched the first 3 seasons.  Basically I watched til the happy ending. I read the rest was a bit depressing.

Just thought of another one that could use a reboot: Andromeda.

I thought the premise and setting were interesting, and could really be explored better.  The idea of trying to rebuild after being flung into a post-collapse scifi dark ages setting had a lot of room for interesting stories and good political intrigue that could make a heck of a show.  But although Andromeda had its moments, the actual execution missed a lot more than it hit.

I'd love to see a BSG style reboot where they pared down some of the silliness, and combined it with solid pacing and characterization.

The original director left in season 2 and the show focused more on Kevin Sorbo. Up until then the show was very good. After, just good. I really enjoyed Andromeda.

While we're talking about zombified Roddenberry concepts; how about Earth: Final Conflict?
