I would say no, in that they probably do work.  But that doesn't make them a good idea.

I'm about as pasty white as you've ever seen, but I keep getting told ALL THE TIME that 'dude, you need a tan'

I'm so confused.....

Please read what I say, not what you choose to imagine I meant to say.
Please don’t try to argue about statements I never made.

Wait, because I'm so pasty white, can I now claim I'm the hottest guy in India?

What must they think of Jersey Shore?

It really is terrible how much people think they have to change themselves to be what they are told beauty is.

They have probably never heard of Jersey Shore.

Yeah I don't get it. From what I can tell, every culture with non white skin finds lighter skin more attractive.  White people seem to find tanned skin more attractive.  WTF.

A long time ago, I had a friend from Africa that was about as black as black can get.  I thought he looked awesome, but I'm an ignorant white girl.  He got really offended one time when I made a joke about how awesome I thought his skin color was.  That was the day I got educated that all black people actually want to be white. Well, according to that guy anyway.  I kinda get how someone who grew up looking very differently and being treated badly because of it might want to look more like what they perceive as 'normal', but the whole lighter skin as more attractive confuses me.

When I was living in Bolivia, one day I was hanging out in the sun in just my shorts so I could get a tan. A farmer that I knew showed up and the following exchanged occurred:

"Lucas, what are you doing?"

"I'm tanning myself."

"Oh...?"

"Yea, most white people in American want to be darker."

"Oh. Everyone here wants to lighter."

Then we stared at each other, both equally puzzled at our situation.

I heard that darker skin is associated with poverty, even in Europe in the past, but then I also heard that while men prefer pale but women don't have a preference. Tanned in Europe and North America now seems to be associated with sun, health, and vacation.

I don't like to criticize people about this superficial stuff because I have some weird preferences, although they don't really follow mainstream culture and I really don't care about skin tone or what shade a vagina is, I've seen how these things form and change. "Feminists" blame companies but it's a rare event when products generate demand, even with the best advertisements in the world. This kind of thing existed in the past, but it was much worse, it included foot binding and corsets. Truth is that due to gender roles women bear unfair burden but superficiality and fashion trends aren't going away, and they're not driven by marketing departments.

I think this product may have been created in part because of their preference to fairer skin, because of the contrast that creates with the sexual organs that are usually darker. I think that's another reason why people prefer tanned in Europe and North America, skin is more uniform, unless they get tan lines which look terrible.

I'm just glad we're finally talking about the one vagina topic we haven't covered before.  The colour.

So, anal bleaching, is that something that we all can get behind?

My sister ran into similar problems when she stayed in India a while.
Couldn’t find any moisturising cream available that didn’t have some sort of bleaching agent in it.

In India skin colour is largely linked to the caste system from memory.

The whiter you look, the more money to make. Sad but true.

I think white people like tans because it's a sign of power and wealth today, just like NOT being tanned was a sign of power and wealth in the 1700-1800s.
