Speaking of Samurai Pizza Cats, does anyone remember Speed Racer?  I remember Dexter's Labatory had an awesome episode where they parodied Speed Racer and they made fun of the horrible dubbing and high speed voice acting.

Did somebody say Speed Racer?

Does anyone remember the Banana Splits? It was a cartoon variety show for kids.  It was on right before the Monkeys.  That was back around 1980ish on one of our 7 channels. Back before cable.  That is my first memory of TV.  I fuckin loved it.  A couple years ago I acquired the entire series of the Banana Splits.  Totally unwatchable.

I watched it when it was first aired in the late '60s and early '70s.
Loved the theme song, and remember missing the show when it was taken off the air.

Looked it up on Youtube a couple years back, and YES, Totally unwatchable.

Anyone remember a show called  "The Curiosity Shop"?
It was a very short-lived Saturday Morning TV show for kids, more educational than most but had puppet characters, very cool animated sequences. It also featured child actress Pamelyn Ferdin, who would be recognizable to anyone who was a child in the 1970s.

Other early TV memories were HR Puffenstuff, Lidsville and the Bugaloos.
I was about 3 or 4 when the Bugaloos aired, but I was totally in love with Joy.

There were numerous local programs in the NYC area that I remember--one of the oldest was afternoon cartoon host " officer Joe Bolton"
There was a legendary Sunday morning kids show called Wonderama hosted by Bob McAllister. My wife was actually on that show.

Also the Patchwork Family, Joya's Fun School and the Magic Garden.

Not a terribly "old" memory, but there was a show hoisted by Hal Linden called "Animals Animals Animals" which was really well done. (with a beautiful theme song)
One day, freshman year in college I walked into my biology (lecture) class where the lights dimmed and the professor showed an episode of that show--only because he was a guest on that episode. He also showed a couple of his appearances on David Letterman and some other show.

Never did watch a lot of television, so the first "TV show" I actually tried to follow was Babylon 5. Earliest, barely qualifying as a show would be a white line on blue - La Linea.

Well its nice to see others know of the Banana Splits.  Seamas mentioned loving the theme song… I always have too.  The broken lyrics are now running threw my head.  I remember seeing the movie “Kick Ass” in the theater a few years back.  When Hit Girl shows up and kills that room full of thugs… the Banana Splits theme song is rolling in the back ground. I laughed out loud.

The earliest TV memories are

Unser Sandmännchen
the German Sesame Street
and
Die Sendung mit der Maus

That must have been around my 5th birthday. Cause I know that we got a TV just before the German Reunification.

 :)
Both of the hosts home numbers are in my mobile and they still live in Adelaide.
We convinced them to do a show *together* for the 2008 National Skeptics conference in Adelaide.
It was awesome.  ;D (I think the kids might have liked it too)
Both have companies and do science shows for schools although Rob also works at Flinders University IIRC.

Many memories in all these posts.

Banana Splits song, mate and I used to play this at jam sessions, way cool.

First memories of TV include Thunderbirds, Andy Pandy, Magic Roundabout , The Flower Pot Men ("Weeeeeeeeeeed") and seeing the Beatles Yellow Submarine in colour on TV in 1969.

Born in 1977.  One in the earliest recollections I have is of a Bear Called Jeremy.  Few of my friends seem to remember it and I thought I had imagined it until I stumbed across the intro on Youtube.

There's a pretty long story about this one, and distribution rights lost in limbo in Poland during the tumultuous times of the late 80s.  Can't get it on DVD to this day.  I loved this one as a kid (I'm a little bit older - you're my brother's age).  I think that the bear had a different name in the UK.

ETA:  Yup, Barnaby in the UK, Colargol in the original French, animated in Poland.

My earliest TV memories are (of course) Sesame Street, The Electric Company, and 3-2-1 Contact. But the earliest show that I really remember vividly, but no one else seems to have heard of was something called Force Five. It was a series of Anime imports and a different one aired each day of the week. My favorite was Spaceketeers.

I remember The Banana Splits for sure! I saw a bit from it a few years ago and ISTR the wacky antics of the people in the Banana Splits costumes running around amusement parks were done to songs about makin' love or something or other. Also, right around the only thing I remember from The Bugaloos was how much I loooooooooooooved Joy. The entire Kroft Superstarswere cool. Remember Sigmund the Sea Monster?

I think my favorite show when I was like 6-9 though was Star Blazers. It is a testament to all your liberal hypocrisy that this show has not yet been mentioned.

Anyone born before 1980 should have traveled to Iscandar with the crew of the Yamato. Kinda goes without saying.

They didn't have space travel when I was born. Well, except for Flash Gordon.

Four bananas make a bunch and so do many more.  :P

Saturday morning was Lost in Space and the HR Puffinstuff gang, old cartoons like Mighty Mouse and Woody Woodpecker.
During the week it was Howdy Doody and Lone Ranger among others.
Mr Rogers and Sesame Street in the morning before school.
Also a local-ish show called Hatchy Milatchi.
