Does anyone remember the Banana Splits? It was a cartoon variety show for kids. It was on right before the Monkeys. That was back around 1980ish on one of our 7 channels. Back before cable. That is my first memory of TV. I fuckin loved it. A couple years ago I acquired the entire series of the Banana Splits. Totally unwatchable.
I watched it when it was first aired in the late '60s and early '70s.
Loved the theme song, and remember missing the show when it was taken off the air.
Looked it up on Youtube a couple years back, and YES, Totally unwatchable.
Anyone remember a show called "
The Curiosity Shop"?
It was a very short-lived Saturday Morning TV show for kids, more educational than most but had puppet characters, very cool animated sequences. It also featured child actress Pamelyn Ferdin, who would be recognizable to anyone who was a child in the 1970s.
Other early TV memories were
HR Puffenstuff, Lidsville and the
Bugaloos.I was about 3 or 4 when the Bugaloos aired, but I was totally in love with Joy.
There were numerous local programs in the NYC area that I remember--one of the oldest was afternoon cartoon host " officer Joe Bolton"
There was a legendary Sunday morning kids show called
Wonderama hosted by Bob McAllister. My wife was actually on that show.
Also the
Patchwork Family, Joya's Fun School and the
Magic Garden.
Not a terribly "old" memory, but there was a show hoisted by Hal Linden called "
Animals Animals Animals" which was really well done. (with a beautiful theme song)
One day, freshman year in college I walked into my biology (lecture) class where the lights dimmed and the professor showed an episode of that show--only because he was a guest on that episode. He also showed a couple of his appearances on David Letterman and some other show.
