So the Catholics get butt-hurt because this guy pointed out that their "weeping cross" was a water leak so now they are basically persecuting him until he takes it back and says it's a miracle.

Freaking blasphemy laws seriously piss me off.

Catholic Church has Indian skeptic arrested for blasphemy

I'd hope the upstream bishops would order their underlings to drop the charges, but that would assume the Catholic Church as an organization gives a rat's ass about bad press. Given the coverups over sex abuse by priests, I suspect the church is more interested in using this as a test case to suppress criticism in India in the future. Being able to jail your critics is a handy power for a despot.

I can't believe there are still countries in 2012 where you can be charged with blasphemy! Of course, in our own country where church and state are supposedly seperated, you can forget running for any public office if you are anything other than a publicly practicing Christian.

My country, which is *apparently* a progressive, democratic Western nation, introduced one as recently as 2009.
