Having been reduced to a small crushable polyhedron, I am not allowed to talk in the ST:TOS Mafia thread, but I wanted to clear up what shape I am.

I am not a dodecahedron (12-sider), nor a decahedron (10-sider); if you look closely at the image you will see that I am clearly a Truncated Cube, that is, a cube with the corners cut off.

You are so not a truncated cube! Truncated cubes have 6 octagonal faces and 8 triangular faces. You have square faces and triangular faces. This is a truncated cube. Does this look like you?

You, my friend, are obviously nothing but a cuboctahedron:

A cuboctahedron is a special case of a truncated cube, just like a square is a special case of a rectangle.

No it's not! A cuboctahedron is a rectified cube, but a truncated cube is a distinct, specific Archimedean solid.

I would argue that everything on this chart other than the cube and the octahedron is a specific instance of the general category "truncated Cube" or "truncated Octahedron".

Well, I see where you're coming from. I consider "truncated cube" to be a technical term referring to a specific polyhedron, but it's certainly true that you get a cuboctahedron by truncating a cube (or an octahedron).

What I don't see is how you can be talking. Where's the mouth on that thing?

Well, it's not going to work, instead, I'm going to waste my value work time putting molds on the Harry Potter Chess Set I just got so that I can improve the sculpt and cast them in bronze...
