[HBO] Girls

So I feel sort of weird watching this show since I'm a dude, but I was intrigued.

Anyone else watching it?

Never heard of it. Is it like Sex in the City?

Not really, but also sort of. It's about four 20-something girls living in NYC, but that's about the only similarity.

I really enjoyed the first episode. I'll definitely keep watching. I thought the characters were really great.

Did you find that the characters were maybe just a bit too cliche? I almost felt like I was watching a TV show written by someone who despises hipsters.

No. I recently met some serious Brooklyn hipsters and these "Girls" don't come close to the hipsterdom I witnessed.

It's a dramedy, though. Some things should be a wee bit exaggerated.

Watched the first episode.  Was intrigued.  I'll give it a few more episodes before I decide.

Yeah.. I know a lot of hipsters, although not many from Brooklyn.. it wasn't far-fetched at all, just seemed kind of formulaic. I mean, that obnoxious dude who wanted to have anal sex.. I swear I've had that conversation with hipster dudes about how they're giving up on their art/acting/music or whatever so that they could take up workworking/farming/whatever because the work was "more honest". I love how it takes a lib arts degree from an expensive college to make you realize that your true calling is grueling manual labor. You could have dropped out of high school and done that and you would have been making a decent, middle-class wage.

Off topic:

Having lived near and spent a lot of time in Williamsburg (hipster capitol), I can telly you that the hipsters in Brooklyn aren't from Brooklyn.

Most are trust-fund twits from all over the country.
