“One-quarter of Millennials identify as religiously unaffiliated.”

We also learn that only 25% attend church weekly and almost 40% seldom or never pray.

“…14% say they do not believe in God.”

I would guess most of them are atheists

Only….

“…23% believe that the bible is the word of God.

I think it's clear that religion is slowly but surely losing the culture wars. Personally I think the current, apparent level of religiosity is inflated, and we're in another pro-religion reactionary movement similar to the 80's.

That matches my own observations, I think. Although Im not from the US. Ive got a lot of younger cousins and would be hard pressed to find any of them that are openly religious.

Also: What the hell are "millennials"? I havent heard the term before. This study seems to be talking about people born between 1988 and 1994... I could understand people born around 2000 being called "millennials", but why are people born in the '80s millennial?

Based on your post, my guess is that "millennials" refers to the cohort that came of age (whatever that means) around the turn of the millennium.

Cause they aren't generation x. I still hold out for generation 9/11.

Less religious, as in less likely to affiliate with a specific denomination and attend services (e.g., Jefferson Bethke's muddled "Why I Hate Religion But Love Jesus).  But the underlying beliefs haven't changed very much:

Quote
On still other measures of religious belief, there are few differences in the beliefs of young people compared with their elders today. Adults under 30, for instance, are just as likely as older adults to believe in life after death (75% vs. 74%), heaven (74% each), hell (62% vs. 59%) and miracles (78% vs. 79%). In fact, on several of these items, young mainline Protestants and members of historically black Protestant churches exhibit somewhat higher levels of belief than their elders.
