Doghouse

Well, my wife and kids are somewhat religious, and I'm not. She joined amazon prime, so I lumped a recent order in with hers. When I open up my DVD, I hear my 12 yo reading a book about dinosaurs to my 3&4 yos.  Suddenly I hear him say "and then the dinosaurs got on the ark with Noah". I go "what????" from one room over, and then he tells me there's a picture right here. I was incredulous, but thought it was pure comedy too. I went and opened the book, and after identifying several dinosaurs by genus and species, it goes on to say the "real story" of how many scientists are wrong, the earth is only 10,000 years old, the fossil record can't be trusted....  It actually had a picture of Adam and eve hanging out with the dinosaurs!!!   I told my kids that was ridiculous, but couldn't keep from thumbing through the book-it was a real wake up call for how dillusional young earth creationists are!

Anyway, since I laughed at a book she bought, I'm the bad guy now. No relationship advice please, I just wanted to let everybody know how crazy this stuff is. I'm still not sure if my wife believes this or not, but trust me, my kids don't.

I'd be the one who is pissed, for feeding such bullshit to my kids.
If you still hold the same views now as you did in high school, you probably should reexamine those views.

Yeah, I agree with MikeHz on this one. Don't get on the defensive on this one; if you're in on raising the kids and she bought them some anti-science garbage like that, you have the right to be pissed. I mean, how is this different from learning that one of the kids got a cold and she took them to a homeopath?

I'm actually kind of shocked at how pervasive this kind of thing has become.

I grew up on the more secular North East US.
We had religion--lots of Catholics, mainstream protestants and Jews, --but we never had this 'young earth', literal Genesis kind of bullshit. Sure, each denomination would have some issue with certain scientific ideas--but the wholesale assault on basic archeology is stunning.

Is this a growing thing?
