The Irish "gay porn priest" takes some time off.
« on: Apr 29, 2012, 01:42:51 PM »
You guys read about this guy? Before a PowerPoint presentation he had pictures of naked men frolicking on the screen in front of the congregation. Then an investigation starts and a miracle happens and the pictures disappear. Now he's decided to take some time off. I've seen them try to tie this to the child sex abuse problems. I think that's an unfair comparison, its not the same. This guy is probably just a repressed gay man who likes other adult gay men. Nothing wrong with that, just embarrassing if you are a priest I guess. Also inappropriate showing the pictures to a mixed crowd. I hope this guy leaves the priesthood finds himself some loving partner and has a great life.

I wonder how many of the outraged parents in the audience got woodies from it.

Reminds me of the minister found with child porn on his PSP. . . Could not figure out  how to erase it apparently.

The Catholic church might be sloppy about kicking out the pedophile priests, but it's good to know they're on the ball when it comes to being concerned about investigating closeted gay ministers having gay porn between consenting adults on their comps.

From living in Japan, I developed a theory that if you repress natural urges, then deeper problems will develop.  So, if this guy joined the church so he could "pray the gay away", then he's just a ticking time bomb.  Of course, it would be the same for a straight man joining the church.  They are both ignoring their nature in order to be closer to their invisible sky monster.

Add to that the protective nature of the church system, which is more a system of enabling than prevention, and its disregard for the safety of the parishinors by transfering a predator into their midst with no wanring.

I've always been unhappy with the conflation between secretly gay and secretly pedophile.

Makes me wonder if the secretly gay don't have a problem with being unable to report the pedophiles because they are breaking the church's laws as well?

I thought it was the organ players who were supposed to be secretly gay?

Anytime some practices something as unnatural as celibacy, there are bound to be secrets being kept.

What was it about living in Japan that made you think that?

I was just thinking of this story over lunch and I wonder why the priest doesn't just claim Satan put the images there, or at least an operative of Satan? The church still does exorcisms and believes that Satan can be an operative in this world, how could this be less defensible or less crazy?
This also gives the church plausible deniability and further fire cover for their priests behaving badly. Attribute miracles to invisible forces, attribute embarrassing faux pas to invisible forces. It's at least logically consistent.

If you listed to Cognitive Dissonance podcast, they have a clip of a woman praying over a projector for just that reason
