LPT: Steam, steam games
(1/1)
goodthink:
Ok, just found this out.
I had to redo my system and the thought of downloading all my games over again was too much to think about. I copied my steam folder on to one of my external drives and re-did my computer.
I installed steam, then copied the folder over and it actually worked. Steam runs the games as if they were first runs after a fresh install.
Xptical:
Steam also has (had?) an "archive to disc" function. You could burn all your games to a physical DVD or CD.
Speaking of Steam, I had a hell of a weekend. I downloaded Torchlight a few days ago, but it failed to launch. Turns out my Steam Cloud saves were corrupted. I had to launch the game and quickly ALT-TAB to the %appdata% folder and delete the Runic Games/Saves folder in order to launch the game. After that, I couldn't play fullscreen because I had the Windows7 font size pumped up to 150%.
Anyway, got it all worked out and Ms. Xptical watched me play my Vanquisher down to level 25 or so.
If you haven't played Torchlight, it's an awesome game. Single-player only, but just pure action/RPG fun. Torchlight 2 is on pre-order for like $20. It will be released summer this year and will include multi-player. If you don't have $60 for Diablo3, T2 looks to give it a run for its money.
goodthink:
Yep. This year is the year of the Gamer.
Diablo 3, Torchlight II, The Secret World and Guildwars 2.
My steam account has 100+gb, which is why I love that I can just put it on a drive and copy it over and have it work without a ton of broken reg.keys
Xptical:
My primary hard drive is a 120GB Intel SSD, so I have to keep game installs to a minimum.
On the up-side, my internet connection is between 60~90MB down. I can install most games pretty quickly.
I currently have Skyrim and Torchlight installed. I'm thinking of ditching Skyrim and installing Take On Helicopters or maybe Silent Hunter 3. I generally enjoy simulators more than anything. I was hoping to get some rudder pedals on Amazon this month, but looks like life has a way of creeping up on me sometimes.
goodthink:
Yep. It's funny how life almost seems to know when things get too good.
