Fitocracy
« on: May 11, 2012, 03:41:11 PM »
So is anyone else using Fitocracy?

It is "an online game and social network that aims to use gamification to help users improve their fitness". I find it pretty good as a motivator especially when there is someone you know with similar score. And you can avoid being harassed by friends and acquaintances because of your workout related FB and twitter updates.

Ooo....that looks fun.  We could totally start a fitocracy group on the boards.

Is it based on an honor system? How do they verify that the work was actually done?

Honor, no verification. You can link certain workouts to RunKeeper, if that can be considered verification.

I think this is a pretty good idea!  Hopefully, we can get a game going. Maybe we can get into teams. That way there is the added motivation of not letting the team down.  Maybe we can have Team Power Bracelet vs Team Homeopathy? LOL

I downloaded this last night and will probably use some time today to get my profile set up.

There's only an app for iPhone so far but they're working on one for Android.

Here's my profile (you have to be logged in to see profiles it seems): http://www.fitocracy.com/profile/KalleBa/

I'm kwittmeyer.  I decided to log my workout for Thursday just to see how things worked.  It's missing 90% of what I do, so I had to finagle a bunch of stuff.  I get the feeling I'm going to be spending a lot of time updating their databases.

Sorry to hijack, but has anyone tried this? Looks like fun. They should use the accelerometers and gyros on the phone to implement using the phone as a weapon too, that would kick ass!

There is apparently a skeptics group, so I just joined that.

Found that one too. One problem I have with the website is that the feed gets so filled with posts from groups that I seldom care to look at the main feed.

The iPhone Fitocracy app is a bit clumsy.  I logged a 31.3 mile ride and a 5K run today and it had me down for 313miles on the bike (in an hour and a half, no less LOL!) and 5 miles on the run (in 19 minutes - Olympics, here I come!  ;D).

Yeah, it took me a while to figure out how their units worked.  They aren't very clear.  I did a 13 mile walk in 30 minutes the other day.  Quite impressive.  I prefer to log my stuff on the computer at this point.  It's a little easier.
