I love squats, nothing like putting a couple hundred pounds on your back and making it your bitch

Aren't you a powerlifter? Shouldn't that be a couple couple hundred? :)

I haven't been training for at least six months and started back last week.

I took it easy yet I had DOMs.

Yesterday I did my first back work out with dead lifts. I had been lifting quite a bit, I can't remember exactly what it was, I think I had maxed out at around 110 kg.

Anyway, after a few heavy sets of 70 and 90, I ended up doing 100 kg for two reps, and even though it felt fairly easy, I stopped  as I know it is easy to completely smash up your CNS with heavy lifting, and I was a bit shocked at how easy it was this time.

I took off of squats for about a month due to my knee feeling off and, predictably, I am still feeling it 3 days later. I HATE SQUATS  >:(

Also, I made a point of working my upper body a lot, lot harder than I have been in the recent past. I went with the 8x6x4 methodology others have used because it was high time for me to change my workout progress and for the first time in a while I'm feeling it in my upper body, too.

Friday's workout was...

45 mins, um, cardio (walking on a treadmill, 4mph, alternating between 3 degrees and 15 degrees... SHUT UP RUNNERS AND CYCLISTS IT MAKES ME TIRED AND GETS MY HEART RATE UP)

Seated rows 8x6x4
Standing dumbell shoulder press 8x6x4 (as I've noted elsewhere I do them standing because I kill my form when I'm sitting)

Dumbell flys 8x6x4
Shrugs (or whatever you call it) 8x6x4

Dumbell curls 8x6x4 (using barely any weight... my biceps look like that Bugs Bunny cartoon)
Triceps pulldowns 8x6x4

I probably could have added 100 or so crunches at the end but I keep getting conflicting information on those...

Might pay to double check your form—changing the emphasis slightly (quad dominant squat: much more knee stress) has a large effect on the stress on my knees. I keep recommending this series lately, but it's worth a look.

So today I finally decided to get up off my big round ass and go for a walk after too long off.  Ugh.  My pedometer's battery was dead.  My iPod was totally uncharged.  My bruised shin (although better) was very sore.  My arthritic foot really hurt.  My hips were stiff.  I got blisters.  (Note to self: continue search for better socks.)  Even though I had a water bottle, I still felt a little headachy-dehydrated when I got home.

Glad I went?  Yes.  I walked about three miles, maybe a little more.  I sucked down a lot of water, ate a big piece of watermelon, and stretched my hips.  It'll get better.

I hurt my knee from walking, not squatting. I just stopped squatting because I didn't want to exacerbate the injury. As it happened, it felt worse after the inclined walk (although still not that bad) than it did after the squats.

I'm sure I'm not doing great form - most of all I'm not getting low enough - but in spite of the lack of full range of motion the squats are doing what they're supposed to do, if what they're supposed to do is make your entire lower body hurt for several days.

My main issue with squats appears to have been that I had my legs too far apart. So good news: I was able to get all the way down much of the time. The bad news: SWEET MARY MOTHER OF JESUS MY QUADS.

Not enough sleep last night, crappy tired run to gym, shitty first warm-up set, second warm-up set felt weak, first work set was a PR, second second work set another PR, rest of the workout kicked ass (even though I felt tired). It's strange how often this happens to me.

First proper hangs on the chinnup bar in eight months.  eccentric chinnups (lowers, really, from a completed chinnup position)  went ok.  can't wait to be hanging a kettlebell between the legs again.  the eccentric dips were a bit scarier.

Well done. I'm building the muscle back up in the shoulder now - lots of light free weights, but I still can't bench press much with the ribs giving me the shits. I am a bit amazed how quickly you recover after you start exercising, it seems like everything has stalled, then you start using your shoulder and 2 weeks later you're back on the bike.
