For what it's worth, the "Our Earth is degenerate in this latter days" quote may have been fabricated -- among other things, Assyria didn't even exist in 2800 BCE, hence it would be rather difficult for an Assyrian tablet to be dated to that period. (Akkadian, yes. Assyrian, not so much.)
The
earliest reference to the quote I'm aware of is dated 1922, which sources a tablet preserved in Constantinople. Yes, you are allowed to hear the They Might Be Giants cover in your head at this point.
