FCAT scores at Pinellas charter school that used Scientology 'study tech' are among lowest in Tampa Bay

http://www.tampabay.com/news/education/testing/fcat-scores-at-pinellas-charter-school-that-used-scientology-study-tech/1232114

None of this is really a surprise to the forum members, but it's a nice article covering yet another failure of a Scientology promise. A little empirical test score evidence about how poorly this works compared to other techniques is also nice.

Excerpt:

Life Force's third- and fourth-graders scored the lowest or second-lowest passing rates in math, reading and writing of more than 300 elementary schools across Tampa Bay.

"It's a classic case of how a management company mismanaged this school, was paid an extraordinarily large fee for dismal services, and the ultimate victims were those poor children," said Dot Clark, the Pinellas County school district's coordinator of partnership schools.

Class what is 42/6:

I had a boss who sent his daughter to one of these schools around silicon valley. I forget the name but when I asked my boss about it his explanation was that the school was better than "traditional" public or private schools because it focused on teaching you how to learn.

People who believe we were created by an intergalactic warlord alien and that psychiatry is an evil liberal conspiracy are dumber than people who don't believe it?  Call me shocked.

"Only one of 14 third-graders at Life Force passed this year's reading test. Eight students scored in the lowest achievement level, leaving them at high risk of being held back. None of the third-graders passed math."

"Life Force third-graders had Tampa Bay's second lowest passing rate, with only Pepin Elementary, a Tampa charter school for children with learning disabilities, scoring lower. "

"The Pinellas County School Board voted to revoke the school's charter in March, due in part to its use of an unauthorized curriculum. Islam's company left the school later that month."

"Some blamed students' poor marks on instability due to Islam's repeated firings of, as third-grade teacher Lynne Kittredge said, "good, certified teachers, because they wouldn't accept her Scientology stuff." "

Grr. Maybe that'll teach them to not base a schools curriculum on bullshit. Probably not.. stupid fucking scientologists.

"You all put out this confusion on religion, and we're not talking religion: we're talking technology," Muhammad said. "If you all had left the school alone, it would have been better."
Oh right. Scientology is a religion until it bites you in the ass.

My scientologist uncle has been proselytising to everyone in his family (and so far been told to fuck off), but through that I've learned he doesn't believe in mental illnesses or disorders, and he thinks that almost all medications besides stuff like aspirin is part of a conspiracy to make and sick and all that BS.

Ah, Pinellas County, why do I live here?!? Seriously? Anyone? Little help?

We've got a bunch of Floridians, transplants and natives, lurking about. Sometimes all in chat at the same time, that gets weird.

The students don't believe that, their parents do. Big distinction.

Perhaps:  "Teachers who believe we were created by an intergalactic warlord alien and that psychiatry is an evil conspiracy produce students who don't know shit?  Call me shocked."

That's probably more fair.
Well.  There it is.

Few $cienos have made it to OT III, so any given $cieno you encounter in real life will have never heard of Xenu or the galactic confederacy, or body thetans and so on. The evils of psychiatry are day one on the other hand. Now that downtown Clearwater is starting to have a pulse again, with non $cieno businesses moving in, and with the culture reclaiming lost ground; farmers markets and art fairs and evening street parties, the Sea Orgers have taken to wearing plain clothes to blend, and are distributing DVDs. Anti-psycaitry DVDs. They're fun to collect.
