Neverwhere is a very good choice, especially in audio. Croup and Vandemar are fantastically engaging.

Have you read Haruki Murakami's novels? It's not sci-fi, admittedly (the style is more like magical realism), but you'd like it.Start with his most recent, 1Q84, or his best work, The Windup Bird Chronicles or Dance, Dance, Dance.
I just started on 1Q84. By the way, the audiobook version is 46 hours long.
