Nope, but I know a few things about how drug trials work. This looks like Phase II trials to me, which means that it has some effect and no severe side effects in animals (one rodent and one non-rodent species) and didn't kill the guys in Phase I.

You might have a case for 'compassionate use' (meaning you can use experimental procedures on people who have no other hope) but that is not the case here. We have a treatment. It's just that the parents are idiots.
