Stinky Feet
« on: Jun 02, 2012, 03:55:05 PM »
So, my hands and feet have a tendency to sweat a lot, which means in the summer I either destroy closed shoes (my feet sweat and they become stinky, regardless of how much talcum or spray or whatever I use), or swim in open-toe shoes/sandals. I decided enough is enough... and googled about. It seems like people either wear cedarwood insoles, or use UV sanitizers (which cost about $100 through Amazon) that are "scientifically proven" to work. I am always skeptical of these "scientifically proven" claims, so I thought turning to you might be the best solution...

What can I do about my sweaty, stinky feet?

Wear cheap replaceable sneakers when you know you will doing sweaty stuff.

Deodorant on the soles.  Srsly.  My feet are average-sweaty, but I read this tip somewhere.  It makes sense, yeah?

My wife and daughter suffer hyperhydrosis. There is a stick you can buy OTC that is basically a super charged anti-perspirant. I am not sure if it would be acceptable for feet or hands. I might be.

Basically, over time it will shrink the sweat glands to nothing and you will not sweat as much through the application area. Some people experience an increase in sweating elsewhere.

sweaty stuff = everything

Thanks goodthink, that makes sense. I'll also try applying it on the shoes themselves, AQB.

So the UV lamp thing sounds unreliable, right?

I think there has been a rash of uv==death to bacteria. Stinky shoes==overgrowth of bacteria. I don't know if either of these claims are true, and I'm on my phone, or I'd do some research. Seems like a good place to start.

These eliminated the odor in my gym shoes: http://www.amazon.com/Odor-Eaters-Comfort-Odor-Destroying-Insoles-Economy/dp/B000NSS1DC

I just buy them from the local drug store. About the sweating, maybe you can just rock some flip-flops.

It works well. Didn't know it was a thing other people did (but stands to reason—maybe I'm not the genius I thought, haha).

I thought feet were supposed to be stinky.

There y'go, user testimonial.  And don't widely separated geniuses often come to the same conclusion?  As for the lingering stinky shoes, how about a spritz of Lysol?

During the warm months when stinky foots is usually the biggest problem I tend to wear very well ventilated sneakers.  You want stinky feets?  Try being a heavier person, who is also physically active....woof!  *waves hand in front of nose*

Hah. Have you had to throw away nice shoes, with good arch support for your flat feet, because of the buildup of caked talcum powder that has wonderfully mixed with the sweat and slime that build up? Because I have :'( All because I like to walk.

AQB, lysol sounds extreme but also brilliant.
