They are actually (if you compare the ballistic tables) one step down from Hornady Critical Defense (their top of the line man killers), with fancy marketing. So yeah, you are completely correct and if you were actually concerned with zombies or defense you would buy something else.

Why would you buy something else?
Hornaday manufactures several product lines: defense, hunting, target practice, etc... They even have a few self defense lines of ammunition. What they did to make the zombie ammunition is take one of their current existing self defense lines, put it a new box, and increase the cost 20 percent. This zombie max stuff is a marketing gimick. If you were seriously interested in either defense or zombies you could buy the same ammunition for less money.

Unfairly preying on the gullible, mere novelty, or shrewd marketing move? Discuss.

They're good self-defense rounds with extra-expensive marketing/packaging.

Hornady Critical Defense for me.  ;D

LOL. That and 410 self defense loads.

Yeah, it's a marketing move, but not so shrewd.

Oh, okay. Wasn't sure what angle you were coming at it from.

Iirc I saw a gel test of the zombies and they didn't perform all that great. Besides, for zombies you want to have a semi auto shotgun with 00 shot.
