Topic: Are You Religious?

Who believes in god here, and if you do, can you pinpoint a specific rationale for why you think it's more likely your god exists rather than not? How do you reconcile belief in god with skepticism?

Crap, I meant to change the title because people get confused and think of organized religion when the term religious is used. By religious, I just meant a belief in god.

I have an irrational believe in God. I do not follow any Religion, because they are all the same in essence. My believe stops there, and I don't move it any further. I'm happy thinking that there is something beyond what we can comprehend. Can I become an atheist, probably, with very little effort really. But I don't want to, at least not yet.

No idea if he's the only religious guy here. I know that there are religious skeptics, though; I was just wondering how many here. Beleth said something about going to church the other day, but I couldn't tell if he was serious or not.

I am spiritual, though I have great disdain for the word, in the sense it was/is used by Einstien and Dawkins.

I decided that religion was silly at around the age of eight.

I thought that if god was the all powerful omnipresent being that I had been told he was, then why did he need all these different churches?

I did have several of those 'one with the universe' epiphanies at around age 11-12, and I did associate it with religion for a short period of time.

I did have a spiritual new aged hippy type phase which I now find highly embarrassing.

I was an agnostic by university, and it took me a little while after uni to call myself an atheist.

I tend to believe this universe was created for some purpose. That's pretty much as far as I will go. Now if I die and somehow hypothetically I get to see that it wasn't, all you'll get from me is a shrug. Eh.

However, I can think of at least one other prolific poster here (beyond Shib') who is a believer.   Yeah, I don't now how they reconcile that with skepticism in general.  But I guess that makes sense given that I'm a non-believer. 

What is interesting to me is that we seem to give believers more leeway with regards to their religious belief than we would someone who, for instance, believed in ghosts.

LOL, here we go again.  There are a boatload of threads that touch on this.  Like Goodthink said, there are christian atheists, in addition to the deists and christians.
