50 Push-ups for 50 Days
« on: Jun 09, 2012, 08:18:12 PM »
I don't mean one a day.

I saw a youtube video of a guy finishing his planned 100 push-ups each day for 100 days. I thought I might try something similar, but I doubted I could do 100 a day, so I decided on 50 for 50 days. I've changed my diet from mostly junkfood to nuts and fruits etc, and I've been doing a bit of exercise recently (on top of walking to uni). Perhaps I should point out I'm an 18yo skinny-as male who sits in front of the computer alot.
I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts, Pro tips, problems I might have or anything else that comes to mind. Is this a good idea?

There are similar 100 squats and 100 something else websites.  We tried them for a while, but always got off track.  Since I'm more into building strength over endurance right now, I'm not really interested in giving it an other go.  It works on a program similar to the c25k that did get me up to 5k. Any effort is better than no effort.

Pretty general. What do you hope to accomplish?

I'm going to suggest getting up to 50 burpees.  You'll get a better workout, and the pushups will automatically be included :)

I tried the 100 pushups thing and failed.  I think the reason was that I was so focused on the pushups that ignored other healthy things like working out other muscles, eating right and stuff like that.  I would focus on all around training, not just one thing.

Agreed...to me a burpee isn't such unless the push up is included.  (I know some people who just jump their feet back and then bring them back).  And the jump has to be as high as you can go.

I was on a big burpee kick last year.  I was trying to get 100 in under 5 minutes.  I made it to 7 and a half minutes.  I also used to take a deck of cards and the black cards would be burpees and the red would be pushups.  Face cards were ten, aces were eleven.  I would just pick a card and do what it says.  3 of clubs - 3 burpees.  Ace of Hearts - 11 pushups.  It was a good way to keep it varied...getting 4 face cards in a row sucked.  At the end I would do ten more pushups and ten more burpees just to make an even number of 200 each.

Probably the best all-round excercise there is. Great for trips where workouts are limited by time and equipment.
If you still hold the same views now as you did in high school, you probably should reexamine those views.

I do 100-140 pushups a day every weekday. I started with 30 a day and have built my way up. I do them in sets of 20 to 40 (sorry for the vagueness, but I just recently added a new set to my repertoire), so I do 40 pushups, then a couple hours later I do 40 more, then 20, then 40 more. It breaks up my day at work and gets my energy level back up when I might be flagging.
