Thanks for the replies.

I seemed to get responses from those avoiding the other threads because of the drama. Hello!

Yo!

Yeah, this has gotten a bit out of hand, and quite frankly I think it's a little bit overblown. "We" are putting these extremely high standards for behavior on each other that I don't think anyone could ever live up to.

Accusations of hostility towards women is a serious charge and shouldn't just be brandied about without any evidence.
*imagines a circle of people shouting about misogyny while passing a big brandy snifter around*

[edit] uhoh, I don't normally hold people to a high standard of spelling, so I think people can live up to it.
(and I checked. "Brandied" is a word. It means soaked in alcohol)

From my perspective, it appears that the MOST defensive members  are also the ones with the biggest "issues" about women.T

and the ones who deny being a witch are the ones who are most assuredly witches!

Pretty much the same here.

I do think the knee-jerk reactionary defensiveness is pretty telling.
The drama is almost embarrassing to look at.

Telling of what? That we are guilty as charged?

For everyone? No.
But the charges are far from unwarranted.
Any across -the- board condemnation would be wrong.
Most members here are excellent.
But compared to other forums I participate in --this place has a pretty big contingent of guys who fit the charges to a T.
From my perspective, it appears that the MOST defensive members  are also the ones with the biggest "issues" about women. That's where I am seeing the drama coming from.

My $.02

Perhaps.  I don't have a checklist of posters who, I think, have issues with women. I haven't made that comparison.  I don't think any group or side have a monopoly on the drama.  thanks up to $0.04

Vague accusations stir the pot.

For all the non-drama seeking members, let me condense the solutions offered.

1)  Cut the boobs and ass thread.
2)  Remember how your mother taught you to be a decent human being when you were a kid?  Ok, ya do more of that when posting here.

The latter is common sense, and I don't see how making a sticky about it is going to effect long-term change.  If people haven't figured it out by this point in their lives...

And the former is just a knee-jerk solution to a non-problem.  If we're losing potential members because they're offended by a small bit of nudity tucked away in a couple threads in the members-only, markedly explicit section of the forum, well, I don't think we're losing much.

Oh  actually a summary is nice.  An occasional reminder on expected behavior is fine, a message on top, in the thread, or in PM and that is done by the moderators.  As for the nudity, I always felt is was out of place here since I think of the forum as less of a hangout of friends than as a casual meeting place for those sharing an interest. However, I don't expect OTHERS to have the same view I do on that and I find the Explicit area to be a good compromise.    It is worth noting that several people left the forum when explicit was created who did not like the moderation of the rest of the boards and some of those people were quite dramatic in departure.

Yo!

Heya jaypee!  I think we mostly DO live up to the high standards and I am for high expectations.

then let us give thanks to the creator for ridding us of the dramatic people before they ran into something important that would be spoiled by their drama.
amen.

Heya jaypee!  I think we mostly DO live up to the high standards and I am for high expectations.

I suppose I should be more specific, and maybe I'm sort of twisting the arguments because I've very deliberately avoided all of these threads ever since I got involved in the original "ElevatorGate" thread very early on and was then horrified as I watched it t spiral out of control. What I'm trying to say is that there seems to be an expectation of perfect manners and perfect.. non... misogyny(?) being argued for by people outside these forums which is then spilling over into the forums and now we're being accused of being misogynists by some of those same outsiders because we argue the merits of the viewpoints. I think there's a very fervent zeal for eradicating perceived misogyny which I find distasteful and extremist as well as divisive and alienating.

And let's get real for a minute here, we are already a very small and very alienated outgroup, the last thing we need is to splinter into even smaller factions and then harden our ideologies to the point where they are too absurd for curious seekers to ever penetrate. As a casual observer I'm watching a gradual (but ever progressing) militarization of distinct camps within the skeptical/atheist movement which is bound to doom this thing we have to perpetual obscurity.

Don't like drama? Stay out of the drama threads and don't start new ones. :2cents:

Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, right answer.

You used the word drama. You must be a misogynist.  >:D

I will not give up the term drama. Or drama queen. Shit is that one homophobic?  ;)

I always used drama queen in a gender neutral way.  Anyone can be a drama queen.  I consider it one of those bits of language that has lost it's roots, like 'bless you' after a sneeze, or 'god damnit'.

Can we post gay porn in the explicit section?  Women like gay porn, right?

We cut the line at 'hardcore'.  Not 100% sure what that means, but generally penetration. And please stay away from anything goatsee-y or tub girly or two girls one cuppy.  And nothing illegal, so if you are in Texas, and you post two guys getting married, that's right out :P
