I watch Damages, I dislike the going back and forward in time, but the show is great. On that note, The Firm is another good legal drama that's a little less serious but also has going back and forward in time. I tend to watch things that have Molly Parker and Callum Keith Rennie in them.

Danish shows, The Killing, The Bridge, and Borgen are great. French show Spiral. British shows Zen, Sirens, Hit & Miss, Silk, The Hour and Luther.

Freaks and Geeks, Veronica Mars, The Unusuals, has everyone heard of these? They weren't particularly popular when they were new.

Even if nobody has heard of Freaks and Geeks, surely they're familiar with it by proxy. That was the show that launched the careers of Seth Rogen and Jason Segal, not to mention James Franco. I'm almost positive Judd Apatow wrote for that show too.

I was a big fan of Freaks and Geeks.  Those were my peeps, man.

I have a deep dislike for M*A*S*H, probably owing to the fact that it was on in my household for approximately 23 hours a day when I was growing up.

Seconding Damages! Excellent stuff. One of the best shows that I get the impression no one watches.

I love it too :)   It's not quite at the 'Mad Men' or 'Breaking Bad' level for me, but I thoroughly enjoy it ~ consistently intelligent writing and top notch acting.  And I LOVE that the 'guest stars' are there for the entire season.....

I was really skeptical of Martin Short coming on, but I thought he did a great job with Lily Tomlin in season 3 :)

I also got MASHed-out. Good writing overall, but no series should go on longer than the war that it takes place in.

I've long held the opinion that no war is truly over until someone makes a comedy about it.
If you still hold the same views now as you did in high school, you probably should reexamine those views.

They couldn't be any more different.. other than that the main characters are women.

Damages is a lawyer show with extremely clever narrative. Each season is a case and typically you get a glimpse of how it will end in the very first episode and the season pieces together the puzzle in a way that leaves you constantly thinking you've got it figured out only to discover you were way off. Amazing writing and acting.

Gilmore Girls I can't really speak to. I've only seen the first three episodes so far. It's about a single mother and her daughter. The writing is witty. It's pretty much a family drama that has some very funny/clever dialogue.

I think one of the biggest compliments I ever got from one of my students was "you remind me of the mother on the Gilmore Girls" (said student wasn't talking looks-wise, unfortunately :)

I had never seen the show at that point ~ I thought the 2 main characters were sisters.

how is it that some people have managed to see 'the first few'?

I don't know how many of the first season I've missed ... turned on the TV one day, liked what I saw, tuned in regularly from then on (as with Dexter and House).
