They've attracted international players.

Yeah, I hate watching what's essentially a game of chess played by the greatest athletes in the world too.

Only because much of the world has an odd fixation with one sport or another but for Koreans, it seems to be a video game.  Which seems to be unique.  To the point that they, the 25th largest country in the world is the second largest consumer of that video game.  Its a bit weird.
