By "everyone" I was referring to movie makers, not consumers.
I remember in interview back in the 90's of an independent musician. He was asked how he could make a living if the consumers could just download the music. The musician replied, if they are consuming my music, they're doing something wrong.

There is a difference between covering a song and remaking a movie. There is a performance aspect of music (and theatre) that allows the same thing to be performed by multiple different people without it getting old. Movies are different and you really should make sure there is some quality about the remake that sets it apart from the original artistically. I don't have a problem with re-imagining older movies for a younger generation, assuming the older version would look dated. I am not so keen on remaking foreign language films a couple of years later for the English-speaking world because that can seem a little disrespectful to the original actors/writers etc.
