Ah yes, this is the correct name.  If I were renaming the fallacies, I'd call it "assuming the converse," though.

Assuming a False Premise (that Ward Churchill was fired for his 9/11 ideas)

By assuming the converse, I assume you mean the same thing which I'm thinking of as denying the antecedent:

Affirming the Consequent
If A then B
B, therefore A.

Denying the Antecedent
If A then B
Not A, therefore not B

I'd call it close enough.
