"Always stay logged in" - does it work for anyone?
« on: August 20, 2015, 02:15:32 PM »
I have to log-in manually every single time I enter the site.
The "Always stay logged in" checkbox seems to be doing nothing.
Multiple computers, all using Google Chrome.

Do you have cookies disabled?

Works fine for me.

Have you tried also changing the number in the "stay logged on for ___ minutes" to something really high?

I have actually, to no avail.
For the record, I tried it on Microsoft Edge and it DOES work there, must be chrome-related, but it happens to me on multiple computers so it's not something local, I think.

I will look into it.  Unfortunately, it may take some time to troubleshoot, since I will have to wait for the timeout to occur in Chrome before I can see what's happening.

Are all the computers you have tested this issue on PCs?

I would check to see if you specifically have some cookies blocked from this site.  I believe that follows you around on Chrome.

Good idea.
I did find that I do have cookies stored from sguforums.com, but did not find it in any blocked list.
Perhaps the cookie isn't being saved correctly? Is the data inside it of any use?

Try deleting ALL cookies in chrome and starting over.  Are you running any adblocking software?

I did, and I do.
I'll try running chrome in Safe Mode (no addons) and report back.

One other thing:

Settings -> Show Advanced Options -> Content Settings -> Cookies ->  Allow Local Data to be Set

If you pick one of the other options, it will definitely not remember you after you close chrome.

It is set to that.
On the bright side, using a test user on chrome (with fresh settings) the "Always stay logged in" option worked, so I know it's probably one of the extensions or synced data.
It's a good place to start digging.
Thanks for the help!

Ok, found the issue.
My bookmark was for "sguforums.us" and the cookie set even by that address is for "sguforums.com".
So naturally every time I loaded the site from my bookmark, it didn't load the cookie because it had a different address.
Not sure if there's anything to do from the server side, but at least on my side I changed the bookmark.
Cheers guys!

And they'd have gotten away with it, too, if it wasn't for those meddling kids!

That's about it, I think. We don't want to be placing an extra unnecessary cookie on everyone's computers.
