Its fine. I keep a laminated cheat sheet where I need it.
Ive always been able to learn them to pass courses but they are gone the next week.

I guess I would be dead by now if I couldn't tie the right knot or hitch needed automatically.  Or at least laughed out of the industry.

I'd get a sub to a real climbing wall for your lad, or at least a fortnightly visit with you.

Personally I hate climbing walls vecause of all the belay stuff and the amount of people and the distance to the nearest good one.
I lived in a place that had a good bouldering set up in the gym once though and I was on that thing every damn day working on holds etc as my warm up and cool down!

I've definitely looked into this.
Trouble is, there's a halfway decent one about 1.5 hours away.
Factor in the belaying equipment I'd have to buy, getting registered at the place, and it's not clear that they allow kids his age..  I don't know. Maybe in a couple years. He's 3 now, a good wall in the shop should hold him, and be a nice thing to have around anyway.

Oh, at there he won't get bored for a couple of years on a garage wall.

Okay. Was finally able to catch a breather, and a free day to get to it.

Painted Wednesday evening, put up Thursday.
(Of everything so far, I think I'm proudest of the colors. Keep in mind my little climber is 3)
Not much, but it's a start.

Put some of these big lag bolts (think that's what they're called) into the main studs to run 2x4s across, at the bottom and near the top.

Used 3/4" regular plywood, resting on the floor, secured to the 2x4s. Wasn't quite enough to make it steady, so I ended up securing little bits of 2x4 to the cross members (that little piece that looks like it's going from the insulation to the back of the climbing wall.. it's actually screwed down to the board underneath)

..... and of course.

Gonna have to add sections to the top, I'm thinking I'll have to angle outward into the shop.
Also the gap in between the two sections is going to be... something. Not sure yet.
Originally was thinking a couple 2x2 sections with 1x1 ledges attached, but I think my plans are still in the air.

This next part isn't so great.
Sounded cool at first, but the result isn't what I'd hoped.

Decided to suspend monkey bars from rafters.

Used eye-bolts through 2 2x4s and L-brackets to secure them to the rafters. Hanged the whole set up with quick links and chain.

The idea was originally that a cargo net will span from the base near the edge of the rock wall up to the monkey bars, but I'm not feeling it right now.

Maybe it'll shape up, or maybe I'll scrap that and do something different. Not sure yet.

Oh, yeah..  hehe.
Here's the crappiest ramp in the world, built out of scraps and bits.
But it holds T and his bike, so, cool.

Haven't had to make any tricky cuts yet..
Shop class was about 23 years ago and I haven't had much to do with wood since.
Let's see how it looks in six months

LOL, be honest.  You wanted kids just so you could build stuff.
