Celebrity check also - I never heard of these guys:

I just assumed they were Canada famous. Especially with Morvis's comment. As far as the brain tumor goes, he just got diagnosed last year, I'd think that he probably still has 365 more days left in him.

When I made up rules for the last game, I set the bar at "must be listed on:  http://www.deadoraliveinfo.com/dead.nsf/pages-nf/main  "

I have to admit, it's a pretty advantageous bet.
Average life of his brain cancer is 14-ish months.

Statistically I have an 85% chance of getting those points.

Its a lot bigger chance of success than the "Eh, he's kinda old, He might die"etc.

I think it might be too advantageous.

I'm not disputing the other 'celebrities'. Yes, HIV and Parkinsons and ALS are all long term survivable. An inoperable cancerous brain tumor... not so much.

Errol Christie also has small-cell lung cancer.  But I reckon if we looked into other lists that are past the dispute deadline we'd find others with cancer diagnoses.

I deliberately did not set any rules for celebrity.  I think we can work out amongs ourselves what's valid and not.  We did already accept a member of the Australian legislature, though, for context.

Errol Christie is an English boxer.
Gord Downie is the lead singer of The Tragically Hip.
We'd Scantlin was the lead singer and now the only surviving member of Puddle of Mudd.
And David "Avacado" Wolfe is the author of Superfoods and a leader in that whole movement.

I'm fine with all those people as celebrities. Most lists have at least 1 person I've never heard of.

and one of the most well known women in Australia (To Australians) She is our female Donald Trump. Except we will never let her lead the country  ;)

That was not meant to diminish the significance of your own nation's iconoclast. ;) I merely was pointing out that we had a precedent for allowing regional celebrities of, shall we say, regional notoriety.

You get to make the rules, and you can decide that a consensus is the rule, and the consensus can go against me... I accept.

I kind of figure the celebrity's death ought at least to make the news on a scale large enough that people on a message board with wide regional membership and subject diversity would notice and discuss it outside of the game itself.

By definition a consensus cannot go against you.  If you disagree, say so and we'll hash it out.  If there's still no agreement, I'll be the final arbiter.

I would like to see the celebrity bar raised high enough to make the game interesting to all participants with each pick.

It should be fun when somebody scores a point, it should stimulate further discussion about the deceased.  If I have to Google the dearly departed I won't be engaged.

Not picking on Gerbig's list in particular, maybe I'm the only one who had to Google those guys.
