Why I rarely watch porn anymore
« on: December 13, 2016, 11:04:26 PM »
inspired by the porn chat on latest podcast.

I used to watch a lot of porn, when I was single, i'd spend my evenings getting more and more porn.

Eventually it got boring, probably due to over-exposure, becoming desensitized etc, but also because the porn industry is just incredibly unoriginal and too low-budget.

The porn feature films all had terrible plots and acting, they were largely replaced by gonzo porn, which if anything is a step backward.  Sure you got more action, but there was no plot at all.  I prefer both.

And for years that's all it has been.  The same scenes but with different actors/actresses.  The only new stuff is certain niches have expanded, and now we have porn parodies.  Besides that, there's zero point in producing new porn, they literally are just carbon copy scenes with different people.

There's only a few things that I found genuinely 'interesting' over the last few years, some of it from Japan, not because they have super weird stuff, but because most JAV productions have some kind of story.  Since there's a limited amount of things people can do to each other sexually, it has to come back to the story or the character.

Mostly what we have today are just 'models', instead of 'characters'.  That's the first problem.

The second is the lack of innovation in technique, and failing to make the most of a scene.  It's usually one guy with a handheld filming the whole thing.  The scenes lack direction, editing, performances range from unbearably annoying to occasionally brilliant.  They rush everything, some scenes are literally 2 people show up, bang, and done go shower.  A good porn should be like an action film, there should be slow motion and explosions (figurative) etc.

I understand most of this comes back to budget and a lot of people simply aren't willing to buy porn.  But it is what it is.

What you are describing sounds like erotica with a money shot. P*** certainly takes many forms, and hit our brains in slightly different ways.

We still look at porn occasionally, but mostly read erotic stories instead.

I never watch porn videos, for all the reasons noted above. I do look at pictures, sometimes of people having sex, sometimes of naked models, and sometimes just a pretty face, probably in equal proportions. I use my imagination to create a story.

The lack of imagination of porn producers makes people turn their back on porn. That's the saddest story I ever heard! Who could imagine that? The matter definitely required more thorough investigation and should be discussed in depth. I can't address all of the problems of the porn industry in this post, but I wanna focus on one specific issue. I've never thought of that, but now you mentioned it and it struck me, the absence of explosions in porn is a real bummer. So what can be done to fix that particular issue? Well, off the top of my head, we can involve Michael Bay. This fella sure can make some quality explosions, but this ain't gonna be cheap. So...

Let's make porn great again and make Mexico pay for it!

If Michael Bay made porn it would probably be fucking epic.

No no no.

Michael Bay is the king of big explosions and "there was a plot?" already. If he does porn it will be firehouse cumshots and squirts that swamp Seattle.

A michael-bay-calibre plot and acting would already be like watching Daniel Day Lewis fucking compared to what they have now.

I usually just watch amateur stuff. Its still put on, and still seems like they are exaggerating for effect, but not nearly to the level that professional porn stars do.

Yeah acting for cameras requires surprisingly understated and subtle body language. Not at all like acting for the stage.

I enjoy watching people fuck. So to me, none of the production values or style issues or anything really bother me.
I just like to see people who enjoy sex, having sex. Now granted, that does preclude about 95℅ of all porn, but when I want to find something to enjoy, I usually can.
I tend to focus on individual personalities. I see a girl who seems interesting and check out interviews with her and if she still seems cool then I spend some effort finding her scenes.
The idea of just going to pornhub and hitting a random thumbnail has no appeal to me.

One thing I still enjoy as a holdover from dirty comics as a kid, is reading absurd comedic comicbook porn. Most of that is pretty gross though and again, takes far too long to find something I like.

I think that if you have enough sex, and enough good sex, then you really don't have much desire to watch pornography. I have no strong objection against porn; or at least, most of it, though I do not at all care for some of the more graphic and extreme stuff (which, at least for me, has the very opposite effect). I do have concern for younger people who, as pointed out on the episode, get a skewed view of sex.

It is boring. It is repetitive. It does give you an unrealistic expectation about sex. I do think it does objectify woman as women in most porn seem to have a fake orgasm right when they summed on by the man. Some porn does care about the perspective an pleasure of the woman but most porn lives in world where women are only present to satisfy a man's need. Sex is like dancing. I seem to have more fun when my partner and I are concerned about the others enjoyment and we work towards a common goal.

I avoid porn, I do think in most forms it is bad for society. I guess a similar argument would be "I avoid movies because Michael Bay is bad for society".
