I watch a lot less than when I was single but am a supporter of it as a whole. That doesn’t mean I support or like all the porn, just its right to exist. Like Harry said, I like to watch people bang who like to bang. I don’t like the degrading stuff but is pretty easy to avoid by searching for things I like.  I don’t care at all for plot or story and really don’t want any of it. Porn has gotten super-efficient at cramming as much sex as it can into a scene and prefer it that way. If I’m watching porn I don’t really want to spend hours at it, I’ve got other things to do.

I never really watched a lot of 'porn'.
but I can perv on tumblr jpegs/gifs for hours.

the lack of motion and sound make it way less real/arousing. like someone suggested, 'audio porn' is a wonderful thing, especially of a girl you're particularly fond of. I don't know if it's just my senses, but it seems less...removed. like, sight is distant, sound is quite intimate, and touch is obviously very intimate. but is that merely because I've _seen_ well over a million pictures of chicks in my time, but not _heard_ millions of orgasms or brought millions of women to orgasm? are all things equal sensorally, separated only by novelty?

It is boring. It is repetitive. It does give you an unrealistic expectation about sex. I do think it does objectify woman as women in most porn seem to have a fake orgasm right when they summed on by the man. Some porn does care about the perspective an pleasure of the woman but most porn lives in world where women are only present to satisfy a man's need. Sex is like dancing. I seem to have more fun when my partner and I are concerned about the others enjoyment and we work towards a common goal.

I avoid porn, I do think in most forms it is bad for society. I guess a similar argument would be "I avoid movies because Michael Bay is bad for society".

Yeah, that was my thinking reading through your post. I don't see the unrealistic expectation being about porn, but about lack of knowledge. If people think sex is exactly like in porn, the problem isn't porn. Unrealistic expectations is in all types of entertainment. It's fine to have superhero movies. It's fine to have cartoons with talking plants and sentient inanimate objects. Most people are able to set those apart from what's real, or are able to transfer the meaning to what's real, even if they like to indulge in the fantasy.

If people want to watch porn, maybe it's because of something they're not having realized, but the porn doesn't have to be a substitute for what is realizable. If you don't have your own personal harem, and you like the idea of it, porn might be a useful sensory aid. It doesn't have to impact anything else.

inspired by the porn chat on latest podcast.

I used to watch a lot of porn, when I was single, i'd spend my evenings getting more and more porn.

Eventually it got boring, probably due to over-exposure, becoming desensitized etc, but also because the porn industry is just incredibly unoriginal and too low-budget.

[...]

I understand most of this comes back to budget and a lot of people simply aren't willing to buy porn.  But it is what it is.

I personally prefer no-budget pornographic material. I sometimes think even non-realistic* drawings are better than looking at paid actors with artificially altered bodies. I guess because it leaves more to the imagination, and makes it more mentally malleable.

*Not in the sense of enormous organs or tentacles and such. But if that is what you're looking for, there's more room for that with drawings and animation, than with low-budget live action content.

I think the porn industry has a much healthier view of beauty and human bodies than most other TV and entertainment industries.  I think some of the "degrading stuff" are things that people genuinely like and have had enough sexual partners with varied enough tastes to not be so quick to dismiss a particular form of porn as appealing to only one gender.  I feel as though porn is largely practically used to either get in the mood, give people ideas for sex, or as a masturbation aid.  I am entirely shocked by the lack of POV porn where the camera is tracking the woman's line of sight during an encounter and think this could be the next big thing.
I agree with Clunn, which makes me feel all weird inside.

The proliferation of "tube sites" has led to a number of creative and compelling couples, and small time niche productions which don't suffer from the "industry" tropes you are complaining of.

Yea, you can subscribe to amateur channels like you can with youtube. Finding them is a bit challenging, as im never really sure what I might be into, but once you do you get notified of their new videos etc.
