Star Wars, not really good but man do folks really love it.
I'm sSeriously, the dialogue is weak, the acting is wooden, and the plot is simplistic, intentionally so.
The Big Lebowski, pretty good but man folks really love it.
2001, snooze fest. Really only
have half a movie, the picture part but lacking much else and soooooo long.
I agree. Im glad Star Wars is popular though because I like the recent ones and the stuff its inspired has been great. I feel the same way about Tolkiens books actually.
Probably a bit controversial, but hey:
Shawshank Redemption (well, its OK, but I think the Green Mile is better)
Its a Wonderful Life
Hidden Tiger Crouching Dragon
Just about all the Bond films
Also agree with this. Terminators 1+2 are great but really ought to be left at that.
Its a Wonderful Life was not at all popular when it came out. I think comparing it to Casablanca is a bit of a mismatch. The former only got big because people developed affection for it having seen it every xmas on tv. Far be it from me to tell people they ought not to like a thing but the love for it as a film in its own right seems disproportionate to how good it is.
In general, I find many classic movies hard to enjoy though. I believe the SGU did a piecebefore on how the tempo of film making has changed and so a film has to have some pretty grabbing themes and execution to help me enjoy (as opposed to just appreciate) it.
