American Gods

Watched the first episode and I really don't know what to think at this point.  It's well made, well acted, well shot, and truly surprising for me as I have no knowledge of the source material and hadn't even seen a trailer before watching it.  That said, the surprises really uh... surprised me and have left me pretty unsure at this point.  I did very much enjoy Fuller's previous series, Hannibal and the visuals in this show certainly remind me of that one.  I think I kind of have an idea about what this show is about already, but I fully expect that view to be refined/thrown out pretty quickly.

Do they have American idols?

I loved the first episode.  It's been a few years since I've read the book, but as each character was introduced I found the story came rushing back.  I'm watching with my wife, who knows nothing about the book, and I keep wanting to nudge her when certain things come up that are obvious to one that has read the book, but would be completely missed on a first viewing.  I have restrained myself thus far.

EL, can you post (in spoiler tags, obv) which "surprises" you mean?

I like the book very much.  My son got me to read it a few years ago, and I'm reading the new, expanded version on my Kindle right now.  I want to watch the show, but I don't have Starz.  Is it available elsewhere?

Not legally, that I am aware of since Starz is producing it. That said, you can subscribe to their content, free of any cable or satellite plan, on a monthly basis for like $5. You can cancel anytime too, so for an 8 episode season we're talking about $10 or so to watch it.

There's some decent content on Starz, notably Ash vs The Evil Dead.  I think Dirk Gently might be on there too.

Yeah, I'll probably bite the bullet and sign up.  I did the same thing for the Game of Thrones with HBO.

That was awesome! So stylish and full of ideas.
The section with Belquis (sp?) and the fight in the dragon bar left my jaw on the floor.
I know nothing of this material. Except it's Neil Gaiman written.

Finally watched the pilot and I'll 100% be watching this.

Only real criticism is the tech wizard guy's irl unpleasant to watch.

Is good.  Me likey.  Also I thought it's a good adaptation, I haven't felt like any characters were miscast.

Has Wednesday called anyone a cocksucker or dirt worshipper yet?  I can think of ways to fit either into the storyline.  :)

Never read the book. It's okay. Interesting premise. The Old Gods are real and fighting something of a rear guard action against the new gods. Plus a hot naked sex scene.
