My wife's uncle rented a cabin in Idaho for it, we'll be joining them.

I will probably hide underground during it so that when I surface I can enjoy the fact that I am one of the last survivors on earth.
common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Ok, I'm interested in how early he had to book it. I think it was a Science VS. podcast that talked about places being booked for like three years in advance.

Do you think anyone has actually done the calculations on the number of people that would be wiped off the earth in the area of totality? not necessarily counting the huge bunch of space geeks flocking to their doom.

If it looks to be overcast in C`dale I will look farther west.

Looking at it again, yeah, going south-west into MO actually cuts about 45 min of drive time. Looking for places around Jefferson City.
Wouldn't that take you out of the path of totality?

Not according to this map.

Just a little south.
The broad band isn't the band of totality.

Well, I didn't mean standing on a street corner in Jefferson City, I kind of meant the general area,  how about I say the corner of 4th and Fulton Road in Mokane.

It's a one-hour drive for me from the southern Iowa. We are hoping for good weather.

I live in Iowa and could drive to Nebraska in around 4 hours but I might fly out to Idaho for a big gathering. We'll see!

We were talking about it in august, so about a year and they weren't able to get in the prime area, I'm pretty sure we'll have to drive a bit to see it.

My cousin lives around Olwein (NE Iowa) so if it looks crappy in Illinois I will drive there the night before spend the night and take off from there in the morning.

We need to have a meet-up, Noisy do you really think that Crab Orchard Lake won't have the crowds? do they have like a picnic area or something?  I just picked Giant city because I've been there in the past, my brother went to SIU.

You don't have to go to Giant City, just find a road and pull over to the side and watch.

Crab Orchard Lake is fairly big but with the influx of people who knows what it will be like. I think there are only a few roads that go into the park.

I might try just to the east of C'dale to miss the crowds. Like I said I'm going to wing it.

Man Carbondale is going to be swamped then.

I'm going to be about 90 minutes North-North-West of Boise, Idaho.
