Enjoy the rest of the books! I'd be interested on your take on the whole thing when you're done.

Me too ;)

I can't believe there are still so many people out there who hate the series though. The first time I started reading it I knew this was going to be my all-time favorite :P

It's actually funny how I got started on them. I was at a local used bookstore in the Sci Fi section and some guy just walked up to me and put The Wheel of Time in my hand and told me to read it. Never heard of it before that.

Umm yeah and it got Mat all messed up with the ruby dagger, which is of course quite important for the story (it makes him end up with holes in his memory, it makes him end up inside the White Tower etc.).

Heh, that's pretty cool!

For me, Ape just told me that they were awesome. At first I didn't believe him, at all. He made them sound totally lame :P Really, you did. So I finally told him I would read the first book (but that I would probably stop after that)... and I got addicted :P

Apparently, Sabbie has a problem with one guy having three girlfriends.

Personally I'm aiming for at least four, so I persuaded her to read WoT to get more used to the idea. ;)

Well that is what you mainly talked about to me, just to bug me. And so I got the impression it was kind of a sick perv who wrote the books and I was sure I wouldn't like it.

If you had kept me from reading it forever I would've killed you!

That's funny, I had TFS read them as a dire warning of how bad it would be.

Well Rand is of course extremely mismanaging them. He should act more like Perrin (the few moments that Perrin actually catches on that is), who is the leader in the relationship. Now Rand has three gorgeous chicks and it only results in him being told what to do by three women instead of one.

I got into trouble making fun of this series.  My wife was a big fan (goes so far as to use "Avhienda" in email addresses, etc.) and when Robert Jordan died, I found out via the CNN newsticker.  I told her this had happened and her immediate, and concerned response was:

"Did he finish the series????"

To which I replied:

"Yes dear.  5 books ago."

I slept on the couch that night.

I don't think you're doing the series justice thefellswooper.

When did you start reading the series?  I've found that people who started it early on and had to wait 2-3 years between books, then only to find a 800 pages that advance the plot about 20 pages worth, are the ones who lose interest.

It might be very different for someone picking it up today and having the luxury of reading the whole thing through back to back.  But for those of us who started reading it 1/3 of the average human lifespan ago, the nuances of plot and subtleties of character development are lost in the fog of the last 20 years.  You know what I remember about character development?  Lots of braid tugging and chick-on-chick spanking.  Oh yeah, that's world class writing there.

Jordan might have been a good writer, but he was an asshole of a story teller.  You can't milk a story for 20 years and expect to keep the same people interested.  Robert Jordan was the sleazy used car salesman of the fantasy genre, complete with rolling back odometers, spritzing Febreeze on everything, and dying before the bill came due.

Hahahhaha ;D.  I disagree with you, but I'll give you props for a nice turn of phrase.

That was my theory as well. I've read all 11 books in the main series one after the other, most in 2007. After that I read the prequel.

It seems very likely to me that someone who reads the entire story in one go will find it a lot more enjoyable than someone who has to wait for years.

Yeah. I can understand people loose interest and sight on storyline/characters if you have to wait 3 years between every book.

But if you don't, it's totally awesome :P
