Help rembering a book pls.
« on: July 15, 2008, 04:04:45 AM »
I doubt this will work as it is hardly a well known book, but I have given up trying to work out the title myself.

It is a childrens book, about a young (British) boy who is very keen on war stories and films.  He builds model aeroplanes and dreams about their exploits in WWII.

Then one day he wakes up and he is piloting a bomber in a raid over Germany.  Then, not only does his bomber start to fall apart because it is a real life version of one of his badly built models, but it turns out his dopey dad is the tail gunner and his dog, Towser, is there with him.

They crash land in Germany and are captured and escape and adventures etc.

Anyone remember (or even hear of) this book?
Massey: No, he needs to be left alone.  We can't fix any of this with violence.
Schlock: You're just afraid to use enough of it.

Tagon: So what is it, gas?  Ice crystals?
Ennesby:  It's a melange.
Tagon: I didn't ask what colour it was!

This sounds like a very weird book, and I have never heard of it. Still, topping the thread hoping that someone will remember.

It's about a British kid, but is it a British book? Country of origin might help pin it down.

I'm pretty sure yes, although I am not in a position to research my answer yet, for obvious reasons......

Can't help you, but I can recommend something.

There's a DC graphic novel called Enemy Ace, written and painted by Gearge Pratt, about a Vietnam vet pilot who pretends to be a journalist so he can interview the Red Baron on his deathbed.

Was it one of TIM books by Edward Ardizzone?  Tim had a little dog named Towser in at least one of those--though I don't recall any of them being about model airplanes....

I have found many references to a Towser in a series of childrens books, book Towser is the main and title character.  In the book I am thinking of, he was just the boy's dog.

I'll look up the TIM books tho.
