Isn't that side angle side junk useless if you don't have any sides? :P ...

Post a proof.

The goal isn't really to figure out what x is, anyone with a protractor can do that. The goal is to find a proof of what x is using simple geometry (ASA, SSA, etc.).

I have the answer using trig - it's not 7.

I have a feeling I know how to solve this - making a bunch of congruent or similar triangles.  But even trying to draw it on a piece of paper it gets wayyy too messy.  I'll bet you start by drawing a line from D || to AB.  And then from the new point down to A.  You get a lot of equal lines - By then my drawing is way too messy to work with.

One thing I didn't notice right away - but to no immediate help is that BD = CD

Is it 30?

It only took me like 5 - 10 mins to do, so I'm probably wrong I guess.

I just used the rule of triangles with 180 degrees, the hole "when two lines intersect, their opposite angles are the same" thing...did anyone remember that one?  And the angle of a flat line is 180 and if you draw a circle around an intersection it's angles all add up to 360 degrees

for instance. That X in the middle of the Big triangle where 4 different ones are created, all those angles add up to be 360 and the two angles opposite of each other are the same.

I got 130 and 50.  130 x 2 + 50 x 2 = 360

someone tell me if I'm right.  I suck at proofs.  I used to have my friend do it for me after I solved the equation in Calc.

EDIT: crap I don't know if ti makes a difference, but I forgot about the side angle side thing and I'm pretty sure I don't even remember how to do it anyway.

The right answer can be relatively easily found using sine and cosine rules.  After failing on my first attempt with this I drew the problem in solidworks and measured the angle, which is 53*13/34.45 (equationed for those that don't want to know).

EDIT: But as iamthebrillo has already said this doesnt solve the problem, since the problem is to prove the correct answer using only simple geometry.
