So what's your region's greatest affront to music?
« on: August 20, 2008, 05:14:36 PM »
I think Norway and Sweden should take joint responsibility for the entire genre known as dansband.

As you can hear, the genre is defined by dreary riffs and quasi-dirty swedish lyrics for the over eighty crowd. Norway and denmark share responsibility for aqua:

So then, what's your country/region/locality's greatest insult to good music?

The Jackson family, John (Cougar) (Mellancamp), Axl Rose, David Lee Roth... take your pick.

My region has a habit of spawning trash like D'Angelo, Missy Elliott, and Timbaland...

Not much music comes out of DC. Sure back in the day it spawned some good punk and go-go but none of it ever got all that famous. I'm sure there some one I'm missing but can't think of it.

yes but none of them suck. Well maybe Tim does, never heard of him and Dave Grohl is kinda hit or miss but would not say any of them are an affront to music.

- Céline Dion, of course...

The French hate us because all our 2nd-rate shriekers go to France.
Rumour has it that's because they're often too stupid to learn to sing in English, which is utterly false: there's Laura Fabian.

- Our shrieking male "rockers", like Éric Lapointe and Boom Desjardins.
This is Éric Lapointe's least bad, Tendre fesse (Tender ass):
(Warning: lots and lots of wanton T&A in thevideo...  :o :P ::))

- Québécois "country"
- Elvis impersonators

- Some people would say Corey Fart -- sorry -- Hart

- Mitsou, but she's cool about it. And so am I because she ROCKS!

(Warning: lots and lots of wanton T&A in the 2nd video...  :o :P ::))

- 60's Québécois "Yéyé" music (often translations of tacky american songs).
One of the worst was a group called Les Baronets, one of the members was René Angélil, the future Mr. Céline Dion... ::)

I think Norway and Sweden should take joint responsibility for the entire genre known as dansband.

Yes sorry 'bout that, but at least the spreading potential is limited to perhaps Scandinavia, Finland and Iceland. And they tend to be snappy dressers...
