Should there be a Politics forum?
« on: September 04, 2008, 04:41:17 PM »
With the American presidential election heating up, and with the number of topics about politics in General Discussion increasing, I thought that perhaps it's time that such discussions earn their own forum.

I know the rogues stay well clear of political discussions, but we are not all rogues.

The reason that there are two Yes choices is that I know from experience that political discussions can get a bit heated on forums, so to keep my sanity and my banhammer in check, it might as well start off in Explicit.

What say ye?
I expect to pass through this world but once;
any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now;
let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.

I say put it in general discussion in an attempt to keep it somewhat reasonable.  You can always move a thread into explicit if it devolves, but it seems that they are all staying pretty clean for right now.

Keep it in General...unless nude pics of Palin show up online.

I think that that is just a matter of time.   ;D

I voted Yes in the "General" election.  ;D

And when the election is over he can erase it all and start with a new bitching section in Excplicit.

I think it should be it's own forum.

I think the problem with a politics forum can be summed up here: Skepticism of Libertarianism

I'd say yes, even if it's only temporary.  After the elections (we're looking at a federal election up here in Canada, too) and the topic dies down, the threads could be moved back to "general discussion" and the politics forum closed if it's not generating enough traffic to justify its existence.
The best debates are the ones in which I'm proven wrong.  Then I've learned something.

Well we've had multiple other threads that I think would fall into this category...the libertarian and anarchy threads would fit into the category too, IMHO.

I second making it temporary.
